so sad... the 85 f/2 has already been reserved by someone else. At that price, it'll probably be taken! :)

my ex-colleague said he'll buy me a new car if he wins group 1... hahahaha dunno true or not.
talk big only I reckon...

He's been saying this for the past 2 years, but so far hasn't struck the top prize! hahahahahaha....

may be he didn't get the auspicious post count...
i need all the luck to retire early and spent my life just snapping photo

have lah... I've tried some Slik and Benro ones that are too tall even for me... :)

But at that time I wasn't even considering a monopod... actually even now I don't know if I need one, hence looking for one on the cheap.

Aiyah, get a broom stick n saw down to your prefered height lah! But I donch think there are CF broom sticks though... :bsmilie: You can fake it with the CF stickers...

But on a more serious note, I'd consider a Monopod - especially if the situation doesn't allow the deployment of the tripod (space constraint)... And hor, ESPESIALLY if you have a super zoom lens that weights more than one kg and no nice VR capabilities, unless you have NNB's biceps... But of course we don't have one 1kg+ lens yet...so you can take your time looking for one... :bsmilie:

yeah lor...

hmmm  CF broomstick... interesting.

hehehehehehe

ahkok (attended the makan outing) has a 105mm f/2.5 AiS for sale, $350....
I think it's too long though. 105mm quite restrictive on DX.

One KG is nothing la. My camera body already 1KG. :o

No leh, actually hor the monopod would be about the same height (on mine it is like 20mm shorter than the tripod fully deployed - 2cm niah!!) as the tripod... Imagine this: you spread the tripod out, each leg angles out... then you detach the monopod, from the same leg point position, angle out the monopod until it is vertical. It should roughly equate to the same height, as the tripod. In the picture above, of course the monopod is much shorter... but dun forget that you don't straighten your tripod legs when you shoot right? If you do, then... Sargeant NNB will come and scream in your face: "Recluit DD123! You donno how to use a tripod isit??!?! Down 100!!!" :bsmilie:

For my tripod, it is actually slightly higher than my required height - so I actually need to shorten the last legs a bit, or else I need to step on a stool... But okay lah, I believe I'm still a growing man... :bsmilie:

Actually tripod I prefer it lower than eye level. Why? because you are setup at a fixed location. And for me, I would love to be able look at the top panel LCD. And when I look into the VF, I actually lean into the tripod, and not stand straight upright.

With a monopod, since I will be walking and moving about, I would want it at eye level. Especially if I am doing birding, I want to be able to tilt it upwards, and still comfortable for me to look through the viewfinder. So it will have to be much taller than a single tripod leg.

A quick height adjuster would be awesome... as seen in this video.

Chilicrab1, this evening you going group 1 or group 2 ....

Question: If I buy Tian-ya (sounds like "Good Heavens!" in English) filter holder and ring adaptors, would it work with Hitech 4 x 4 / 4 x 6 filters? Anyone would like to advice me against this?

Nope. Tian-ya's (天涯) filter holder is for 85mm filters like the Cokin P series.

The filters you are talking about are 100mm filters, holders that will fit these are:

1. Lee foundation kit
2. Hitech 100mm holder
3. Cokin Z-pro series holder

Come to think of it, should we organize a tour to Tianya's factory in Zhejiang? If we do the China trip of course.
