DSC_0017.jpg

ps: im new to this, so my questions may sound silly.
1. why does my horizon look abit slanted? even though my spirit level is all properly aligned..
2. how do we pp such that the lotus is not overexposed? this shot no pp except for resizing..

thanks a mil!

wah, bitez, must tone down the exposure for the lotus lei, if u using lightroom ask DD he knows more, if ACR than use the feather option to tone down exposure for that particular area... thats how i do it..

did u set ya tripod properly..?? if not than ya spirit level is off, well just adjust in PS lah...:)

You stopped down and used base ISO...
no newbie 'mistake'
Looks like a case of lack of stability of support system... It was rather windy this morning. In such situation, you need to observe if your camera system is being 'disturbed' by the wind. Can try applying weight to the hook under the center column.

The horizon is a false one, coz the right side is much closer to your camera than the left side. If your camera is not aligned parallel to the shoreline, this situation of 'horizontal perspective distortion' shows up. There really isn't a reliable reference for your level, so as Kit says "go by gut instinct" :D My instinct says that you can afford to tilt the image anti-clockwise to achieve a more pleasing level.

The lotus is too bright. It's what I would consider "blown highlights". Camera records it as white, and there is no detail. One way to reduce this problem is to apply the black card technique during the capture of the image. Can google for more info, or perhaps next outing I try my best to demo for you.

Howdy folks!! Well, conditions yesterday morning was less than desirable but I think we still managed to squeeze out something which were commendable. For one, the sun wasn't really present and the ambient lighting was pretty flat towards the later part of the session. The water was rippling away so mirror like reflections was impossible. Here's 2 of mine and I'll explain firther how they work and why they didn't.

This was taken at an earlier timng, and I thought there were enough contrastin the scene for a B&W conversion. We were having more artificial lightings on the right and that rendered the visual balance a little off. I managed to get some rather complete reflection off the water so I decided to work with the almost 50/50 top down composition and have the horizon in the middle during cropping.

Some of the issues the first one had was improved in this e.g. the artificial lightings is less over-powering this time but I had no reflection to speak of. The 50/50 top down composition does not work anymore in this instance so I've moved the horizon off centered.

Great pics....

Guys what are those white balls floating in the water?

Is that a preparation for any upcoming events?

Thanks...........

About those eggs festooning (well, more like floating on) the water front...

Have you uploaded your images on sites such as "flicker", etc, yet? They need to be on the internet already before you can post them here...

If you have already uploaded, click on the yellow icon (third from the right) when you post your message, and then copy a link to your image into the box given.

The complete code for the image should look like this:
[***IMG]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5005/5233383285_4a42e4875b_b.jpg[/IMG***]

remove the red *** above for the code to work...
