[SunChasersSG] Newbies Outing (Part 19) - Lower Seletar Sunrise 25-09-10 (photos)

What is compressed? I dont understand. Is it noise? This time most of my shots are quite noisy I cannot push so much for most of the pictures.

I have to go sleep now. Tomorrow morning go to school. Good night and thank you.

hi,

if you look at your third picture posted (the warmer one), at the end of the pontoon on the left, in the water, there is distinct pixellation. this is more than likely because of your small file size (45kb). if you know how jpg compression works, this is the result of high jpg compression... i.e. details being shoved together, resulting in artefacts.

you can read the wikipedia article on this here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_artifact

hope this helps.

i find that for most landscapes, due to the huge amount of detail retained and required for presentation, i try to keep it to around 250kb. you can control this by resizing to the required posting size (instead of relying on what flickr/facebook suggests), and then save to web, and adjust the quality from there to hit 250kb. you will more than likely avoid such artefacts with such a file size limit placed.

Bro, the longer platforms makes framing a little trickier.

And seriously, I think they are butt ugly in glaring white plastic. :o

hrm, i would think so, but i am not really a fan of the original wooden platforms....

anyhow, i just generally have a problem with 3 platforms :bsmilie: somehow, that area is just hard to compose, you have to rely more on the beauty of the sky than anything else, because of the position of the sun, the fact that the jetties lead AWAY from it... so the best i can think of is using the sunrise as a counterpoint... which isn't optimal, for sure.

I think at certain times of the year, the sun rises from further to the right (south), if composing towards the easterly direction (facing OCC).
In that instance, MAYBE the lines formed by the 3 platforms might have pointed toward the sun.
But anyway that point is moot, since those platforms are gone :)

nonetheless, I'm looking forward to your shots from that spot if/when you do visit, coz I'm sure you'll amaze me.
(stress, hor? :) )

actually, everyone's pics look sort of hazy also if you look closely.

One way to minimize that hazy look is to increase contrast a bit.

Thanks for sharing. I will try out when I free. Hehe..:)

haha.. okok~!

maybe yup it was a hazy morning so the result as such.. but, don't worry.. you can try again at the next outing...

Ok! I will keep try to be better. Hope the next outing we can go tgt. Hehe..

Hi Jackle,

I think #1 is the best out of all your pics. #2 and #3 are underexposed (especially #2 which is way way underexposed).

#4 is a little tight in the view. A wider view may work better. But if getting a wider view makes it too busy, might be a good idea to lose the boats in the composition.

ya tripod left behind, ya bag hanging, plus mine tgo, can this be called littering.... hehehehe;p

Bro, it is not advisable to tilt the horizon in landscape photos unless you have a really go reason to do so. Will throw the viewers off. It seems your lens might not be wide enough to capture 2 jetty properly. Maybe should just concentrate on one the next time. I encourage you to go down again and try in the future.

Ya, after seeing my pix agn, u are very correct. 1st outing and learn after this comment.
Will take notice of the tilt in future.
Great comment dd123 and thanks!!:thumbsup:

ps-anymore outing of these hours, count me in pls. ;);)
