[SunChasersSG] Newbie Outing (Part 15) - Clarke Quay Sunrise 7th Aug

Oh, for this outing, i brought my events camera the D90 to test out my new Tamron 10-24mm. A much underrated lens as you can see here. No filters used other than the cheapo one that came with the lens. I don't normally use the D90 for landscape, so even had to ask ZCA for help to find the remote activation button. :bsmilie:

Pic1 - 10mm
Pic2 - 24mm (blurry bottom left corner due to lack of dof - user incompetency.)
Pic3 - 10mm

If i recall correctly.

wah... putting your newly bought tamron to good use...:D
pic2 blurry... more likely is just that particular boat moved during the exposure. There was a guy there on one of the boat doing something.

Wowz!!! Nice shots peeps! Gaz, you put me and my images to shame, to think I plonked 400 bucks more! :bsmilie:

The reflections on the water are just fantastic! Ain't no way LE can do that. What's the trick har?

I think so too... that's why I'm particularly edgy when it comes to boats - one time I tried that and I thought the boats were ghastly!... Never shoot this at night where there are still activities on the water surface I guess... small waves will rock them to bits...

Thanks to Bert and company for organizing this outing. I enjoyed it very much and also learnt a great deals from you guys.

Here are some of my humble shots, still a lot to improve upon:

Newbie homework time!
Thanks DD for organising, and the seniors for the guidance given and advices given. Here are some of my shots

#1 Before the sunrise

#2 Sky is getting bright

#3 The sun is up!

#4 River(drain) view

Always liked panoramic shots taken by other ppl, so decided to try my hand at it. C&C welcomed!

Hey Jeezuin,

#2 and #3 I think there is a very slight tilt to the right. And both actually can benefit from a slightly wider view.

Everything else is quite ok. #1 is slightly overexposed. The choice to use (almost) tungsten WB is nice.. gives it a different glow.

Panaronma is quite nice. But a shift of view more to the right would make the picture more complete.

Well done!

Thanks for coming! Great job on the photos. #2 is my fav.

#3 is slightly over exposed. Maybe a reduction of 0.33 to 0.67 stops it will be perfect.

What's a fun & great outing organize by Albert. Today did not shoot much, all the time discuss with Ghaz1 about the camera setting configuration, talking about this coming man utd vs chelsea community shield game with Adrian..;)

Also feel sorry to Albert whereby need to left early due to rushing for another outing @ Hort Park..:embrass:

Just to share my 2 humble shoot, C & C are mostly welcome:

At optimum apertures and small prints still can fight la, but wide open you definitely get that extra $400's worth.:bsmilie:

No trick, just extremely still waters?

Testing the lens for street photography. Distortion at 10mm still looks very well controlled. And the added advantage of being able to crop away any distortion is a big advantage.
Cropped a bit from the right side to straighten the leaning lampost.

Yup, maybe i'm lucky to get a sharp copy or else Tamron updated their later batches of lenses. This lens did not get good reviews when it was first released 2 years ago.

A man moving around? That might explain the blurry boat! :dunno:

So far almost 90% peoples turn-up..:)
But too bad it's was raining at the middle of the shooting..

By the way, feel touching for those peoples never give up spirit make the outing ending with sucessful..

2% Distortion

scenic2.jpg

Slight distortion is normal for an ultra wide angle lens. The Tamron is reviewed to have one of the least distortions for a third party manufacturer. Less than 2%. Looking at the railing which is supposed to be straight, the curvature shows what "less than 2%" distortion looks like at 10mm.

Should be easily corrected in Photoshop.

Ya bro, that is the most encouraging.

I was kind of disappointed with the clouds this morning. But the people and the company made up for it.

Bro we need to go somewhere to catch more sunrise... like that glorious one we got at Lower Seletar that day...

Someone's in love! ;)

Dude did you try the tokina 11-16. I know range is very short, but 2.8 man.

I did consider. The price second hand is still more expensive than the Tamron and i needed the range for street photography. But i tell you, i'm just in LOVE with the ultra wide perspective. The widest i could shoot previously was 24mm on my LX3, but now i can do this:

The BOSS

The distortion made ZCA's features look baby cute though

Wah! Of coz. That would be an honour, sir! Poor ZCA, many more people will be seeing his distorted features. :bsmilie:

Thanks Albert for the constructive comment. I have actually increased the exposure in PS to make it look brighter than it was. I have set it back to original now.
Thanks again.
