This is a win-win situation for both models and photographers cum studio owners who wish to expand their portfolios.

However, I think if the thread starter had been upfront with the intention of her request, some ugly remarks could have been avoided. If you start a thread without clearly stating your intention and the purpose of the request, it can be misleading for readers and eventually you're going to get remarks such as these. This is a situation which is very common in a forum like Clubsnap.

You're not the first and I don't think you'll be the last. But I wish others will not come down so hard on such mistakes. I think if people can be more calm and start guiding each other nicely will this forum be a nicer place to hang around.

stirr up a storm here.

As I mentioned before, I do not get anything out of this.

Thanks to those photographers who have emailed me... the response is overwhelming!

Many talented photographers have emailed me their photos... I'm utterly impressed!

Ok, i just have one point, if someone already owns their own studio, dont you think they dont need to expand their portfolio anymore by offering free work?

There are also photographers who have just started their new studios and would like to expand their own personal portfolios who have emailed me to express interest...

Once again, it is an individual choice.

Noone is forcing you to do what you don't wanna do...

Pls note that this is not a commercial photoshoot... no monetary benefits involved.

It is suppose to be highly experimental and a unique concept/experience ...

One that is held in a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure involved.

There seems to be some misconception about photographer/studio owners. Below are some info from a photographer/studio owner for you guys to consider.
1) Owning a studio do not mean I will have people renting my studio for shoot everyday. ( maybe 10% of all studios in SG do studio rental. The rest either do not rent or only to close friends or associates )

2) Even if I do have people renting my studio every day, it does not make any diff. to my own portfolio.

3) Do you think it is professional for me to join in the shoot? I think not.

4) Even if I know the one who rents the studio from me, and is invited to join the shoot, do you think I'll have a major say as to the concept, lighting, set up and direction of the shoot? He's the one paying, it is his shoot not mine.

5) If he wants me to do 4), than it is not studio rental but an org. shoot. And how many photographers/studio owners org. shoot?

5) Since I did not come up with the concept, lighting, set up and direction, can I say that the images are my work/portfolio? No, No way. At most, the session will just be a practice session for me or just a fun shoot, not something which I can claim to be my portfolio. ( In fact, in the few instance where I was in a group shoot, either at my studio of at the photo club's studio, I was helping them with the lighting, set up and giving directions to the models. Hack, I didn't even touch my CF card.)

6) Since I can't claim the work to be my own. Don't you think I need to do some shots to call my own for my portfolio?

7) I can only claim credit for a fashion shoot because I'm part of the creative team that produced the image. But I'm only PART of the creative process.

8) If I want to shoot something diff. from what I usually do, I'll need to shoot outside of a commercial shoot. In other words, look for a model/talent and do my own stuff.

9) The best way to achieve 8) is to either book a model/talent, look for friends or TFCD

10) TFCD is the most cost effective way for a photographer and the models to get to do something that they both want without the constrain of a client's interest and at the lowest cost possible.

There is no free lunch in this world. Everyone should get something out of the effort they put in.
When I do a commercial shoot, my payment is money.
When I shoot for TFCD, my payment are the images.
When I shoot for charity, my payment is the knowledge that I'm helping someone lead a better life.

Hope I've given some of you some food for though.

No pressure? I don't think so. Even in a TFCD, we must ensure there's a min. standard. Everyone should get what they want. Especially so if the shoot is " highly experimental and a unique concept/experience" :sweat: :sweat:

If I don't want pressure in a shoot, I'll join a paid shoot. Even if I shoot crap, it's OK, I don't have to answer to anyone :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:
