i partially agree with Chris Lim's quote. and i also gave one example - AZhou - who has, within the space of a few months, 'develop' a photographic sense (which is undoubtedly still evolving) when a few months earlier, there was little or almost none focus on.

that's what i meant bah. i sound like some ahpek ahpek

Thanks Sbox. Through the last 3 weeks or so, i've learnt alot by "Meeting" alot of people through, clubsnap. people like you, Azhou, wiz...... and i begin to look at my photos i previously shot. scrutinized it more, and disliked alot of photos which i use to like. A photographic journey begins alot with one's self, but this journey is aided by many people you meet along the way. Not just photographers, but even maybe the auntie selling news paper along the road side. What Russell mentioned was the most basic thing we can do to start our journey into photography. In fact it was a reply to the question, "what would be some advice you will give to photographers who are just starting out?" So i guess it takes time to develop a particular style of shooting that you like. A keen photographic sense could be shooting anything at all that is deem pleasing to the eye of the shooter. But the logic, thoughts, meaning that goes behind the shot itself is a totally diff level of maturity on its own. Gd examples can be seen on your APAD as well as Zarens'. Very "mature" photos.

Just my 2 ringit worth of thoughts. Dun shoot me hor?:bsmilie:

 i like your attitude. yes, 'learning' and education can, and should come from all sources (i think i said something similar b4 in another thread).

even from "the auntie selling newspapers along the road side"!

of course la, must use our own critical judgement when choosing our sources and extracting the necessary info out of it.

to understand about photography ... don't read about photography.
expectedly, when one first hear that, myself included ... it seem absolutely contradictory and paradoxical.

but when i think about it..what is really being meant is to draw inspiration and education from many different places. don't just concentrate solely on photographic books..it can be like stepping into a fenced area and shutting the gate after you.

although sometimes, the more i try to know ... the less i know i know. and it leaves me with an overwhelming sense of inadequacy :sweatsm: but that's just me bah.

The more i try to know, the more confused i get. The more confused i get the harder and longer i take to digest what i know. the longer it takes to digest, the long i take to improve. That is kinda how the cpmplexity in simplicity came about i feel. =) Books can tell how how to do some technical things. but the execution is a totally diff thing. =)

This is one thread that's a bit hard to keep up (for me that is), but full of good
exchange of ideas and advices.

lastly, dont tell me to read from page one ya... hehehe

to me...the execution part is you...you feel right, the photo will be right.
instinct? mayb...

I can say that I'm very fortunate too to learn from stereobox ( I admire the way he work even before we were couple ), student, mattlock, zaren, etc etc too many to mention. I kinda agree with one that said, "You see what you know." By learning more, somehow I 'see' more.

I agree with this. One of my senior ( not photograhy, illustration =p ) said that if i feel my old work so shitty I should be gratefull cuz it means i'm improved already.

Another line I would like to share would be, "Post the best, dump the rest." I forgot who said that, if not mistaken DeadPoet or Mattlock.

Being confused is a part of learning, seriously. Dont be afraid to get confused. I've even now in a phase when I lost my cofidence n interest ( not in photography, in another field ) and it's all the way more chaos than just being confused.

Dont be afraid to take a long time. Slowly but sure as long as there is an improvement or enrichment would be fine.

But when there is no improvement / enrichment at all and you keep on sinking in confusing phase - if that's me, i will question my method and see wether it's appriorate or not. Actually that's what i'm trying to do now. Looking for a new approach to achieve what i desire.

pardon me if my interpretation is wrong - but if you are talking about 'negative thinking will bring somehow negative result' - then i'm quite agree with that. Right now i'm doing a subject which I lost my confidence n interest in ( imagine how scary it is T____T ) somehow i have this negative set of mind and of course the result not far away from what i imagine.

Positive thinking is somehow important, specially when dealing with art.
Art is a pleasure, dont you think so?

UPZ again for my pix that seems to sink with all the OT ;p

Talking about maturnity, somehow I realised stereobox far far away more mature than me. I'm not talking about age, but more about how he deal with life. I feel like a kid somehow ( or am i still a kid? )
I used to say he's not open minded and never take initiative. NOw that I realised i'm the one who shollow minded and lazy do new stuffs.

Shame on me.

ok..something hopefully 'easier' for today's post...

"Sometimes, we are too obsessed trying to find the meaning to life, when we are but a drop of water"

Nice texture & contrast ... meaningful caption

excellent shot! great tones, texture and details. the reflection in the water droplet gives a feeling of clarity and light.

thank you wiz23, zaren

*photographer's note : actually, if u look closer, u will observe that this shot will be an impossibility in reality. the water drop is actually dripping upwards
