UPZ again for my pix that seems to sink with all the OT ;p

'Silence' looks distracted...she's got the look of restlessness in her eyes. obsessed by her thoughts? maybe not as much as being 'constrained'. i get a sense of 'frustration' out of the picture.

but that's my interpretation la

The more i try to know, the more confused i get. The more confused i get the harder and longer i take to digest what i know. the longer it takes to digest, the long i take to improve. That is kinda how the cpmplexity in simplicity came about i feel. =) Books can tell how how to do some technical things. but the execution is a totally diff thing. =)

wait wait..slow down a moment..

what exactly is it that is making you confused? you got watch The Matrix? like Morpheus asked Neo...'are you ready for the real world?' .. perhaps you can ask yourself the same question ... 'are you ready for what you are about to receive?' (:bsmilie: )

i'm saying this in general, not pinpointing or anything in particular..but personally i believe there's no shortcut (only acceleration, but that's another issue). give you an example .... last time my grandma gave me a konica PnS camera as reward for my PSLE results. i don't even know what are the differences between film ISO ratings, aperture, shutter ... i was already wondering 'hey, what's slow-shutter rear-sync flash' .. cos i read that function in the manual. of course, i didn't know anything, and the more i try to understand, the less i don't know. the less i don't know, the more i get frustrated. that's the snowball effect. eventually, i gave up. i didn't use the camera for a long time.

so what i'm trying to say is..give yourself a time frame. go at a rate you are comfortable with... don't give unrealistic expectations about yourself, you will only disappoint yourself if you can't possibly reach them. set a target, a target that inspires you, not one that demoralise yourself.

very, very general advice ... and it may not apply to you , cos i have not got a clear picture of what your previous post actually meant. but still, hope it make sense.

by the way, personal opinion .. simplicity is simplicity. there isn't complication in simplicity. the complication comes from external sources. approach simplicity with simplicity, and you won't go wrong

This is one thread that's a bit hard to keep up (for me that is), but full of good
exchange of ideas and advices.

to me...the execution part is you...you feel right, the photo will be right.
instinct? mayb...

agree... instinct of 'what's left, whats right, what's wrong' comes with your own photographic sense, i suppose...

and sometimes, ur instinct may even go against ur normal thinking "i should do it this way instead".

Positive thinking is somehow important, specially when dealing with art.
Art is a pleasure, dont you think so?

personally, i derive 'pleasure' from art that deal with the darker, deeper psyche of the human mind. you already know that i used to like 'gothic' photography (hehehehe) and helping you do your homework somewhat sparked my interest to learn more about Expressionism (bla bla) etc.
hmm..i still stick to my idea of "painting with shadows" (;p )

I find that art somehow teach me to appreciate more. Appreciate my surrounding, appreciate my existance, and so many more.

I will stick ( somehow ) with painting with light ;p
PS. Did you remember once I said you are my light?

Agree wif your point, dont give yourself unrealistic expectations and become to obsessed with that - later on if cannot reach will feel very disappointed.
But in another hand, on said, "Aim for the moon - so eventhough you fall, you still be around the stars." In another hand I also believe that one must have a high dream and target - eventhough cannot reach that level, somehow still in a better phase than the first phase.
For me, I rather aim for something far far away but trying my best not to make it a burden and sink in disappointment when i cannot hit the target ( which very difficult for ambitious people like me )

As for simplicity, i beg to differ. Simplicity is more than a simplicity. There is complexity inside a simplicity. We all know "Less is More" all the way too common - so this time I gonna use another word of wisdom. "The gentlest water is the deepest one." ( not sure if i translate it correctly )

yups, "set a target that inspires you". a 'target' should lead you 'forward' ... not as a benchmark to make you feel bad how 'far down' you are. i like what AZhou said .. "aim for the moon - so even though you fall, you will still be among the stars."

there's a difference between simplicity, and interpretation of simplicity. perhaps it's also up to the individual to attach complexity to simplicity. this is different from 'hidden meaning' in 'apparently simple' objects. i'm talking about something that is stripped down to the barest. simplicity is simplicity.

of course, this is a very hard concept for me to grasp...:dunno: what is, how is, when is, why is simplicity? we are somehow clouded by external sources and struggle to understand the essence of simplicity.

shhh... :nono: dont leak out the secret... mine is the pirated version! lol :bsmilie:

actually for me it's more about simplicity and what's inside the simplicity. It's a meaning that's inside simplicity that full of complexity.

Bare doesnt means 'nothing'. Doing simplicity and stripping the element to most basic form doesnt means we detach everything from it.

Once again, simplicity after all, is an artistic tendecy.

Simple life is the most complicated one, what you guys think?
