= Stefan's Weekly Singapore City/Landscapes II =

Nice one, I've always wondered about the view when shooting from Teck Ghee Vista side. You carry your camera and tripod when jogging?

awesome shot for "Red Letter Day" (Reprocessed).

Very nice bishan valley! View is awesome

Thumbs up!

Thanks guys for your comments. Thanks for your viewing time too. :) And no I'm not crazy to jog with my camera :p, for Bishan this was taken in the morning; it was one evening when I jogged there I took a break and decided to go up one of those blocks at the park and viola - this POV was born. LOL. Seeing that it was the right time of the year, I went back there with my gears the next day.

hey Stefan, great journey and images... so beautiful! what gear (body/lens) use mostly?..

thanks

Yes as MachBot mentioned, I'm using an EOS 7D and 10-22 for majority of my shots. :) I use a Sirui N2204 as my beloved Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 died on me. :( It was beyond repair... Served me well for 5 years. Now that I am also doing a lot of Multi-Row panoramas, I'm still trying to invest in a panohead setup.

So on to my adventures of Toa Payoh. :)

One Morning At Toa Payoh

3 Image HDR/DRI, 3x2 6 Image Verto + Pano to relief visual and spatial proportion. Toa Payoh, Singapore.

Many thanks to Wilson for introducing me to this area on the roof a carpark. I admit, I had a hard time coming up with a good composition here, and my 10mm isn't literally "wide" enough to include whatever I can capture within my frame. Everything here is a Verto+Pano combination.

Note to self: Spend $600 for a complete pano-head setup. ;p I really, really need one.

If your setup can work with the Nodal Ninja 3, you should try it (some people will prefer the NN4 as it feels "sturdier" though). And it won't cost you $600. :)

Thanks mate, gotta do some research on those before I splurge some money. LOL.

Me Against The World

Single Image RAW, 34 Image, 17x2 Verto/Pano. Collyer Quay, Singapore.

This was an impromptu shot as it was after finishing a nearby meetup with one of my school buddies. I had my camera and tripod with me so might as well. I wanted to do DRI and longer exposure (More than 30s) for better sky streaks and smoother water effects, but I didn't have my remote. Therefore I can only use what was made available.

Shot this sometime in February but didn't want to process it, as the "thought process" in this photo was just too personal. But I thought hard and decided to. (And to top it off, I took 3 days to post-process this shot as I executed numerous attempts to process it the way I wanted it to be)

You may have heard me saying I never really liked shooting the Singapore skyline - It was probably just too common I guess. I have to come clean on this - I've always yearned innovation and uniqueness and I get bored easily when I do the same things over and over again. It's my defiant nature that keeps me going; I really hate going with the flow, away with what the crowd thinks. I hate being a sheep. I hate being a follower. It makes me wonder how some of the greatest minds revolutionize or innovate that can influence or cause people change the way they think. Can I do that? I don't think I can. Look me standing there, I'm just a stupid ******* in shorts.

As I stared at the city lights with thousands upon thousands of occupants in them, can I influence the mind of the World to change for the better, or is the World restricting me to reach my fullest potential?

OK, I'm probably rambling too much and slightly going out of track... A shot is still a shot of the CBD. Nothing more. And... Yeah that's just me standing there, wandering away with thoughts I myself cannot comprehend. Thanks for viewing. :) Enjoy.

UPDATE: Fixed pano mismatch and contrast fix.

UPDATE II: Sharpness fix.

Signs Of A Rainy Day

2 Image HDR/DRI, 3 Image Vertorama using GND 0.9 soft + GND 0.6 soft for higher tonality of the sky. Kranji, Singapore.

I just wished the sky would've been better especially my first time stepping to this awesome place. Initial plans were to use long exposure for extremely smoothed cloud effects but the clouds weren't "moving" and appeared stagnant apparently.

Loved the way it looked over here, not much post-processing has been done and yet turned out well. I guess grey skies doesn't seem so bad afterall.

Little To Grow

3 Image HDR/DRI, 2 Image Panorama to include tree. Kranji, Singapore.

A different day, a different time, a different light - Evening came.

At the end of the journey I was intrigued by the dilapidated foreground around me, the fig tree at the right and the setting sun. It's kinda hard to believe such an awesome (yet mysterious) place this is and the existence of such place in Singapore is astounding.

Last one for the area. I've shot many more POVs but felt such delicate subjects deserve much better light, when the time is right.

At The Edge Of The World

3 Image HDR/DRI, 2 Image vertorama using GND 0.9 soft. Kranji, Singapore.

Twilight hour came and all was beautiful. As I stood there looking at the gradient of the sky I thought to myself, I've finally made to this place I've longed yearned since 2011. I'm glad to see this place in person, and I've more to accomplish that in future.

Took me quite awhile to fully go through this amazing thread. TS's personal conviction of finding new perspectives and composition is contagious~. Hope to learn more!

Absolutely digging that composition

Nice lah Stefan!!

Thanks guys. :) I really appreciate those words of encouragement. Just doing what I love to do whenever I have the time - me and my camera. Not entirely perfect, but I'm still learning and exploring too. :)

Pastel Morning

2 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.6 hard + ND 0.9 for smoothed water effects. Punggol Beach, Singapore.

Been a while since I've been there. Before sunrise, the entire environment glowed a healthy tinge of purple and orange which made my heart smile. It's always nice to step on shore with the waves on your feet, and with no one else but yourself - You express much better the intimate feelings of solitude; the mind of simplicity and happiness, and the state of self in a picture. Hope I did it right.

Land Of Make Believe

2 Image HDR/DRI, 2x3 6 image verto+pano to include more elements at the bottom and right side + ND 0.9 for smoothed water effects. Punggol Beach, Singapore.

After the pastel-like morning faded, there came the main course - sunrise. Final shot of the series, I love this place. Really gets me into the mood. I know... If you have been following my upload patterns I usually upload 2 or if not 3 photos maximum. While I should capture more of the place, it's not about how many shots you have but rather the quality and meaning behind them. Anyway that's just me.

I've never seen Punggol Beach like that before. Nice!

Thanks. :)

Funky Town

3 Image HDR/DRI, 4x4 16 Image Multi-row panorama. Orchard Road, Singapore.

Came across this POV when I was waiting for the lights to cross that road. I love that newly constructed overhead bridge. However I wasn't pleased with the results, and thus I ditched it for while. It was not until I recently reopened my file, and decided to give it a second chance. As I said, I hate shooting photos without a visual narrative or intent.

Initial plans were to stand in frame with my back leaned against the pole of the traffic light to anchor the entire shot, as the vehicle light trails led toward a certain point that eyes will direct to. But that felt really cheesy and I wasn't wearing black unfortunately. Coloured clothes just don't work.

The only thing I wished for was smoother light trails. I stood there for nearly 20 minutes waiting for the right vehicle movement, but rush hour like this is a no go. Thus I had to work with what I have. I hate cut-off light trails especially when vehicles brake and go abruptly due to jams; stuff like this really bugs me.

Great shot man. I'm inspired to go shoot at Orchard. Kekeke. :)
