can i have a show of hands who is interested to meet up on Sunday morning?

Hi -- just started reading about this strobist thing..

what flash-zoom (i think it is 35mm by default) do you usually use for a particular setup? and why?
1. bare flash
2. with diffuser like whaletail

I hope i can join and observe how these things are setup on your next meet-ups so that i will see the basic things that i need =) i only have 430ex, 540ez and PT04 flash-triggers.

now pondering which lightstands to get to get me started.
some options:
1. mini-lightstand 0.66m max height (portable)
2. lightstand 2.5m max height (heavy)
3. cheap tripods
4. super-clamp (can be attached to a branch)

Thanks!

tripod is a good way to start if you already have one. after a while it will be limiting to what your can do with the direction of light. tall lightstands can be deployed low if needed.

i doubt you can use a super-clamp on a branch. it's okay for a railing or pole/post. for branches, you may want to look at those gorilla-pods.

however a super clamp can be attached to your lightstand if you want to add another light without the need of a bracket or readjusting your first light.

as for diffusion, it all depends on the output you desire.

@ jfoo -- will take note of your advise, thanks!
@flipfreak -- thanks for the setup-diagrams.. i may try without the hair-light and background-light first as i only have 2 speedlites now..

umbrella holder with hot shoe is abt $40 depending on which type u get. i got mine from ruby.

lightstand for me was 60 something cos i got a high one instead of a light one.
