S'pore Strobists?

Best is to ask the fella from Tagotech but I reckon it won't be a problem. I always use off-shoe flash setup with collapsible stands which are built to be very portable and very lightweight, never had a problem and only use proper lightstands when using monolights.

just a question:

- Is the Light stand Portable from Tagotech stable enough to hold a Softbox umbrella + 430EX flash? or need to get the bigger and heavier stand?

With just the flash alone, the portable lightstand works fine.. but do note its max height is only 0.66m, depending on what you're shooting it may be too short for your purpose.. also due to its micro size, the legs only spread out over a very small area, any gust of wind with a brolly attached and there goes your flash..

Hope this helps..

I'm using Targotech lightstand with softbox/umbrella + 580EXii with no problems indoors. Killed 3 umbrella outdoors, luckily the flash survived. Best to have someone hold the stand if you wanna use it outdoors.

Thanks for the info..

Planning to get the Light Stand Mini which can go as high as 2m rather than the portable one at 0.66m only with just $4 difference.

Now, regarding the umbrella selection. Planning to use it just for portraits and a few small group shots.
Which umbrella is better (most applicable) to be paired with using 430EX flash.
- Shoot thru/bounce soft umbrella?
- Softbox umbrella bounce?
- Softbox umbrella shoot through?

I know it depends on something but just give me a recommendation based on widely/most commonly used.
Thanks

i recently got the Lightstand Mini. holds my 430EX fine (without any modifier).. will be trying out bare-flash for now and i might be getting an umbrella(shoot-thru) or softbox(fr tagotech) later =)

you can't really say which type of brolly is "better" than the others, just different characteristics for different applications.. for example, the shoot-thru gives the softest light , at the expense of efficiency and spill control eg. you don't want the light to spill onto your background etc.. bounce types the characteristics are almost the reverse..

shoot-through must watch out for the background if you're shooting wide-angle shots.. you might end up with the outline of the umbrella on a wall or something.
