S'pore Strobists?

it isnt listed, but tot it shud be ok coz i have an optical trigger that works with it...

Just for information, optical trigger don't work with Canon flashes.

Hi guys,

Wow didn't know there was a SG Strobist group. Just joined the Flickr group too!

Anyway, I've been a reader/stalker of Strobist blog for a while now, but only recently got a Nikon D60 with the kit lens (18-55 and 55-200). I used to shoot with a prosumer or point shoot, but thought it's about time to move on as I was outgrowing the prosumer camera features.

Am looking to get a couple of flashes too, possibly a SB-24/26 and a SB-800 - read that the D60 can wireless fire an SB-800 with its built-in pop-up flash, and was thinking of making use of that feature. SB-24/26 would work as a secondary flash, probably wireless triggered by one of those Cactus/PovertyWizards/Made-in-China wireless rigs. An alternative would be a sync cord, either Nikon or the cheaper ones from Tagotech.

I would love to try Skyport/PW/RadioPoppers but they are out of my budget. Besides I figured since I'm still experimenting and all, might as well try out and make sure I wanna go the Strobist way before investing a few hundred bucks in the good stuff... ;)

Any recommendations/advice from the regular Strobists around here is appreciated! :)

Go Strobists! :D

Go Strobists! :D

D60 can only trigger SB-800 in SU-4 mode. If you want to use full CLS AWL mode, you need either a SB-800 as controller or use a D70 and above body.

Any strobist meetups?? Would love to get together & learn more from some of the more experienced folks here & just have a great time. :)

Just got my PT-04 wireless flash trigger today from SLS. Now to look for some CR2 batteries as I don't really like the ones that came in the box. Any idea where to get them easily?

I am new to this. I have a couple of questions
a) To create a white background type photos (using a white muslin / paper background) is using a flash like SB600/800 sufficient to light up the background?

b) what is the basic set of lights I should be getting (I have only an SB600 at this point) for a basic set up

a) Using one flash a bit difficult. Using two flashes (Manual flashes like Vivitar 285HVs counted) would be better. If you're very good at masking in PS and have time, one flash is enough.

b) A basic set up would be to get one flash off-camera (in this case, your SB600) and shoot it with diffusers / umbrellas and use stuff like reflectors (or a big piece of a2 white paper) for fill. I personally only shoot with one umbrella setup. I'll add a few Vivitar 285HVs or el cheapo flashes in the future.

For flashes, a Vivitar 285HV seems to be good. You can import it from overseas.

Cheers,
Zexun

i agree with headshot... but if you do not have high expectations, I think you can get away with it. I own SB800 only.. so I am not that familiar with SB600.... you can try the wireless if it works, or buy the nikon remote cord (about $125 for SC-29) or those cheap alternatives.

As for background.. I tried cheap mahjong paper from popular... big enough and for small items.. with proper DOF, it should be blur enough to be white. And I use white + transparent coroplast to diffuse/reflect the light. But this depends on what you are trying to accomplish and your expectation. My problem is money so my expectation is also a bit low. :)

Apart from mahjong paper, you can consider buying a peice of white cloth from fabric shops instead... It cost not more than 10 bucks for u to get a quite big piece of cloth... Also, it's reusable and less susceptible to creases... You just have to iron it away... Haha...

Hi All, I have several strobist friends, and closely following strobist.com.

For those of you who's interested in color gel, I have sources which can provide 1/4,1/2,full CTO & CTB, another color.
Anyone interested ? I can organize MO if the interest are big enough.

Below is a sample of multicolored flash-lit environment. FYI : The bottle is dull-grey metalic.

Gotta check the stock level, but from the catalogue they gave me, yes the model is there.

I'm also keen, depending on the cost though.

Anyone eher also keen on organizing a strobist portraiture photoshoot? The difference with other shoot is that we can be free to try our lighting, learn and compare other gears (so to avoid buying white elephants), have enough time to practice our own setups, lightstands, portable softbox, etc etc?
