My 5 cents worth:
Where basic rights are concerned, there is no such thing as absolute freedom. A person's right is basically translated into his responsibility toward another person's right.
A duty of care has to be established where rights are given. This duty of care is owe by the rights- receiver to either the general public and/or a specific member of public, who can be a total stranger.
As long as the duty of care is not breached, the rights remain in operation for the person. But in events where its breached, then the party-in-breach is liable for his action to the innocent party.

I guess after these incident, more people will not want to express their views openly. And if they did, they will not reveal their true feeling & opinions.

The same is true in local bussiness. Many controls & you get more or less the same kind of retail bussiness in singapore; unlike Taiwan where many kinds of small bussiness can take place. We have heard foreigners saying singapore is boring all the time. Simply due to extreme control & over regulations in our land.
We talk about "uniqure singapore" or building an exciting place to attract tourists. How to do that without reducing all those inhibiting rules & regulations? I think it is more appropriate to call it " Building castle in the air" or the chinese saying 'Zhi Sang Tang Bing'.

We were constantly remind to "think outside the box", but if the outside of this box is another bigger box...then how???

indeed i see alot of 'yes-men' especially in work...bleah.
