Speedlite 600EX-RT

Great idea for Canon to include wireless in the new flash design.
But for most photographers who already have few sets of PWs and Speedlites, it will be expensive to change over to 600EX RT now. Image selling at huge lost and then paying a huge premium for few sets of the new 600EX RT. Phew!

looking forward to price reduction for the 580EXIIs heheheh

Lucky I had sold the some of the flashes and PW mini and Flex to prepare for the new flash. :)
Currently still got 4 YN565 and some plus IIs to use till the new flash arrive.

can anybody help to confirm that 580ex ii will have higher guide number at ISO100 200mm position base on below info

580ex ii 190' (57.91 m) ISO100 at 105 mm position
600ex rt 197' (60.05 m) ISO100 at 200 mm position

Er 580ex got 200m???
BTW both will have same power. It is 600ex need more at 200m.

Assuming have 200mm :bsmilie: like converging the flash to the same 200mm coverage angle, will the distance be further?

Yap should be. Longer the flash focal length, the angle of spread will be narrower , the intensity of the light will increase.

Had a quick chance to play with the 600 rt n st today at the studio. Flash is slightly larger than the 580. The bundled gels sounds like a good add on for frequent event shooters or strobists. One major shortfall will be the inability to mix and control the 600 with the older flash models using the new st. The new st does not support the ir wireless control. Pricing is not fixed yet as well.

Humm....... Not promising with old speedlites?

Wooow. ... ... so is the exposure more consistent????

The new st seems to be only for rt, but was it difficult to adjust the flashes with it.... how would u rate it compared to pw, odin, etc....

Better off using the 600 to trigger the flashes. The st seems better for all wireless rf setup.

Didnt really spend time to test it. Played more with the mk iii n 1dx. Really like the improvement in build quality for the mk iii. Apparently the focusing screen is changeable for those who wanted to use split screens. The mk iii will be available sooner than 1dx but still no fixed price yet. The 1dx shld be abt 8k.

On a side note there shld be more cams coming out this yr.

It is really good news to hear! :) Did u bring along a mk ii n try a side-by-side comparison too? If the 1dx will be about 8k (roughly), would I be wrong to ask why it's kinda cheaper than 1ds3's pricing? I mean they increased the 5D3 while lowered the 1Dx compared to previous models?

If I were to own total of say 3 flashes (currently hv 1) by year end, would it be better to buy 2 more 580's + wireless trigger or sell off this current 580 n get 3x 600's?

I have 3 flashes (580II, 430, 420), but I still thinking of getting a pair of 600...........

Ok.... thanks for your information......

This year, Canon is really HOT HOT HOT mood...... having a lot of new release in the pipeline..... Canon Nation in trouble......

Bro, you should test with PW if they are able to trigger.

They are hush hush abt it now. I suspect will be out later this yr during the bigger tech events.

Sorry didnt cos i dont own a mk ii and the mk ii in the studio were with my colleagues. The grip is slightly larger and the batteries are loaded from the side like the 1 series.

I think the 1dx slots in btw the older two 1 series, hence the pricing. Dont quote me though. Haha.

I think whether to use with pw or not depends on ur working style. If u plan to mix flash with strobes, getting pw makes more sense. If u gonna use all purely speedlite, i will get the 600. Less stuff to carry, overall lower cost and not as much things to go wrong when using.

I think the signal is a different frequency. Its also hard for them to incorporate since pw comes in three frequency as it is.

I asked whether they will come out with a receiver only unit to work with strobes. Otherwise stuck with using optical slaves or using a 600 to be a slave. Thats a very ex slave.
