Speedlite 600EX-RT

Btw my point abt the 600 being bigger is that it might not fit into current aftermkt flash bags like thinktank ones.

I think the signal is a different frequency. Its also hard for them to incorporate since pw comes in three frequency as it is.

I asked whether they will come out with a receiver only unit to work with strobes. Otherwise stuck with using optical slaves or using a 600 to be a slave. Thats a very ex slave.

My personal opinion it won't be able to work with PW due to the frequency used. However, I am thinking it maybe able to work with profoto air as they are using the same 2.4GHz. Will be trying it once I get hold of the flash.

That is one thing that need to be considered.

They are hush hush abt it now. I suspect will be out later this yr during the bigger tech events.

thanks, let hope they remember to include RT into 7D mk2 built in flash and still retaining the infra red cotrollerl for my older flash. :)

...
On a side note there shld be more cams coming out this yr.

70D should be due by August. Not to mention 650D. Or maybe there will be persistent rumors for a high MP 5DX.

7D has infra red controller for older flash? Isn't it using the buildin flash to trigger the optical slave flash?

not too sure about the term but what i read is infar red signal.

Nah. Lot of people got it wrong. Never IR before, whether buildin wireless or from 580EXII. Cover the build-in or 580EXII flashhead and your slave flash will not trigger. Which why when in wireless flash mode and with master flash disabled, you can see the flash still fires sending the control info.

thought ir requires los. so what type of signal is it sending?

Light also requires LOS. The signal info is embedded in the light flash, too fast for human eye to see.

If the ST-E3-RT had a AF-assist beam, it'd hv been super cool...

I know... I should have said my style of shooting with 3 flash off hotshoe... & need to plus the ST-E3RT....:sweat:

I will take years to ASSEMBLE them... :(

There are many brands of cheap flash that can act as slave. As long as there is manual control.

I have not considered and do not think I will considers 3rd parties..... previous experience with 3rd party items was not so positive.......

But would it make that much noticeable difference in tolerance of the bags? I mean (79.7x 142.9x 125.4mm) vs (76×137×117mm) :dunno:

Also, could someone enlighten me pls? Apart from the power n stuffs, another difference is ability to support 61 AF pts (compared to 45 of 580exII). What does it practically mean? When using 1Dx/5D3 with all its 61 AF pts, would a 580exII flash have some error or confusion of not triggering the flash for the unsupported 16 AF pts? What are some expected difficulties? I quite don't understand that. TIA :)

I believe the support of 61 AF points has to do with the AF assist beam and not the flash.

Depends. Some bags are a snug fit. U dun really wanna squeeze it in if u can. Might take a equally long time to remove. Talking from work perspective. Sometimes drop bag take cam n start shooting. No time to dily dally. Hehe.
