Not too sure if you guys get this msgs when using Search. I am trying to search for "F11" and get the error msg ... think that under 4 characters, the system is not able to recognise the search.

I have tried searching for things like "70-200" and get the same msg ... Would moderators kindly show how can we find something like this? Thanks! :)

Too short will not work (not sure what minimum length is) and numbers only will not work regardless of length.

Minimum search character is 4.

For "F11", try using "Fuji F11" (including the quotes). Based on my testing, you will get better results if you search for more specific items and limit your search to a certain timeframe (eg newer than 3 months or older than 1 year).

Common words like "please", "that", "there" and also most non-alphabetical characters "-", ".", "+" etc. are excluded by the search engine automatically.

Unfortunately, searching using quotes does NOT work. I have tried several searches with and without quotes, and the results are identical.

Actually, that's not good. Quotes or no quotes, the search engine makes it an "OR" case. This case, it'll just turn up all entries with Fuji, but not F11. Because F11 = 3 character, it gets dropped from the search.

for example, if I do a search for "Sigma Flash" I'll get all entries with the word Sigma and Flash in it. I think it'll be good if the implementation of the search engine can be changed to an "AND" case.

Yes, this is the same thing I am talking about here:
http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=147156

The search engine gets on my nerves sometimes.

We have changed some parameters of the Search engine so please try again. The changes are being tested out on a smaller group as it potentially impacts on the server performance.

Only members who meet the following criteria will be able to notice any difference :-
a) Have been registered more than 60 days AND
b) Have made more than 100 posts

Specifically, the Search engine has been tweaked to default to an AND search (previously was an OR search).

Please feedback if this change has any impact (providing you meet the criteria set above) while we monitor the overall performance of the server.

p.s. The mininum number of characters for search still remains at 4 characters. This change has an even bigger impact on performance, so we are doing things one step at a time. Thanks for your understanding.

Like the new improvement, makes the search so much easier
