Sony Zeiss FE24-70/F

Zeiss one can be bought in many reputable shops, Sony Zeiss ones are sold mainly in Sony Stores.

They are both well made with good coating for ease of cleaning. Hoya HD are good as well, just that Zeiss ones are completely clear glass, while Hoya HD can see tiny sparkles, probably features of their coating.

Hoya HD is slightly thinner for the frame. Good for some who likes lower profile. Just slightly slimmer.

Using Zeiss UV filters too. Mainly to protect the lens element and ease of cleaning. Just use lens pen to clean when required, and looks new again.

Yes, quite some time back. Was also using Leica, B+W, Hoya HD, and some not so popular brands.

Now only have Zeiss, though quite like Hoya HD.

i use B+W XSPro for all my lenses for 2 reasons
1) I dropped my lens once before and the filter being brass, saved the lens. it took all the force and cracked but the lens was intact..since then, i only use B+W
2) I find it easier to clean with my tshirt..i don't use lenspen or lens cloth etc..i just use my tshirt and i find B+W the easiest to clean..Hoya tends to smudge alot..making it impossible to clean without a cleaning kit.

Hoya is also very hard to clean with cleaning kit...

Yes. Hoya has alot of different types, free ones are the cheaper ones normally. The slightly easier to clean one is the more expensive ones, HOYA HD model, comes with black box and gold wordings. Price quite near to Zeiss filter.

The main feature of Hoya HD is it don't easily smudged, and dang easy to clean. But I always have my microfiber clothes around so they are all alright for me. Just recently tried Hoya HD and I thought they are pretty good...but 90% of my filters are still B+W

Is the filter rim metal?

The price is high.... I would prefer normal B+W...

Yea, i only tried the Hoya HMC and that was a pain to clean and i gave up o Hoyas after..
The HD almost B+W price...might as well get B+W..tried and tested...and the xspro is so thin...won't think of using anything else now.

In the Manual, there is an option called Eye-Start AF,
(Sets whether to use auto focus when you look through the viewfinder if an LA-EA2/LA-EA4 Mount Adaptor is attached)

Ya I found the setting in the Menu but it was disabled :sweat:

You need face detection mode to be on as well for the eye AF to work.

yeah same for me I was in Dublin around Feb was cold my Hoya filter suddenly had this white stain like some milk had spill and dried I cant get it off until I'm back in Sg and uses some lens liquid cleaner so I was forced to removed my filter while I was in Dublin...

bad point about b+w filter is that it is too good quality. if you happen to drop your camera bag or worst still the lens and the filter gets dented, it will be super tough to remove the filter without professional help. with hoya you just need a pair of pliers and you can cut/peel the aluminum ring out kekeke

Yeah b+w filter ring is made is brass I've seen and heard of the filter gets stuck specially if your lens filter thread is also metal.

They should be the same. Both are T* coated. Sony's are a bit cheaper.

The only thing we can know for sure is that the Sony filters are designed by Zeiss and uses Zeiss's proprietary T* coating.

A comment from another forum:

"They even look physically the same and come in the same neat clamshell style case, though Zeiss announced its version in 2010 and Alpha branded versions were available long before that. I'm guessing Zeiss saw the opportunity to make some money by selling them in other sizes, though only offers "POL" and UV whereas Sony only offers CPL, ND and MC (clear protector) no UV as it's not relevant to digital sensors."
