The word 'optics' spelt wrongly in the rumour post... someone's fantasy...

Well Sony launched a professional videocam... not what we were hoping for :(

Actually, Sony already has a camera that is closely meeting the specs of the rumoured camera right??? I mean some of the specs are completely off but still the main stuff such as the Exmor sensor, 10FPS performance, HD video recording, mechanical shutter, high ISO performance, HDR, 3 inch tilting LCD etc are all there. Only thing is that it is not APS-C and its only 10MP, lens are not interchangeable too (but it already comes with a 18mm to 466mm, G Lens some more!). Anyone heard of the HX1???

Anyway, its not what we have wanted and I have enough of sharing rumours/news here...get nothing but critics...

But a lot of us wanted interchangable lens so that we can use the existing lenses we already hv. So a compact sized dslr with aps-c sensor which can use alpha mount lenses would be a perfect backup camera.

Not to mention the aps-c sensor would give the camera a big advantage over the m43 cameras.

I do understand that we are all looking forward to a compact DSLR format camera with a large sensor. My apologies if I have crashed the discussion with a non-relevant camera - I do not mean to be critical in any way. It's just that the HX1 has so much to offer and it is really worth a second look, if let's say you are not particular about carrying a non-dslr as a backup. I have used the HX1 for a while now and it has never failed to impress me again and again. The handheld twilight, HD movies, sweep panaroma and the 10FPS mechanical really rocks. I can never do all these things with another compact ultrazoom (or DSLR for that matter).

I will be going to Japan this weekend and it is really a hard decision to decide on which main camera to bring along. In the interest of portability, my heavy-weight 7D will have to stay at home and it is tough to choose between the lighter A350 or the HX1. I am very confident that the HX1 can deliver the results but at the same time, I will miss the reassurance of a DSLR. I will also be bringing my MG505 Everio and 2 super compact T300s as backups. Really don't want to lug around so much deadweight for my trip, but if it really boils down to deciding on only one main camera, there is no doubt that the HX1 will still be my ideal choice for a balance in performance and travelling light.

I agree that the HX-1 is very very impressive. In fact my friend was torn between the HX-1 and the H20 but in the end she chose the H20 for it's compactness.

Wow, you should listen to the sound this camera makes when shooting handheld twilight. 6 rapid "glocks" within a second - sounds like music to the ears! What's more important, the resulting image is really very useable. I took some photos at my son's childcare centre's annual concert last week and whatever apprehension I have about this camera vanished after that. I was seated quite a distance away from the stage and the lighting conditions are quite challenging (stage lighting). I have no luxury of a tripod and everything has to be done handheld unsupported. Flash is out of the question too. In addition to all the above, I also have to zoom in almost all the way due to the distance from the subject - you can imagine the amount of camera shake I have to contend with. Below are some of the images (all with no touchup), I don't know about you, but I am very happy with the results. I know very well that my previous S2000HD and the SP550UZ will definitely not be able to do this. Have included a sweep panaroma shot of the concert hall as well.
