Sony System any good?

True... I think SONY has the only AF CZ system in 35mm DSLR system.

Anyway, I find the noise on the A-900 quite acceptable. I frequently shoot at 1600 and 3200 and the result is excellent.

To be entirely honest, if you print the photos out, you want some form of noise as it will create the Film look which I like. For silky smooth images looks too DIGITAL for me...

Noise is only problematic, when you shoot under and have to brighten or when you zoom in 100% which is a silly things to do.

If you print a ISO 3200 image on 8"x12" and standing on viewing distant (typically at least 3-4x the diagonal of the print) you won't see anything about the noise. To hold up the print to your nose to evaluate the noise is not the way to appreciate an image.

Don't get caught too much with technicality I think... but focus on photography and artistic value of the image.

If you consider this set up A-900 + CZ 24-70 f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 G+ CZ 85mm f1.4 + 35mm f1.4 G + CZ 135mm f1.8, it give you best bang for the buck in any system at comparable quality and of course all of them will be image stabilised.

That systems gives you high resolution if you shoot it correctly and all the freedom you can have in expressing yourself. I simply love those combination for day to day assignment, plus few other lenses for other application.

Go and do the sum, you will probably know that this system is very very competitively priced and if you can't get a good shot from this system, you have yourself to blame.

Is SONY System good enough? for me yes... but may not be for someone else... and it is a question of relativity.

Take care...

ps. I don't receive any commission from SONY....

well i haven got enough to buy a sony a900 yet but i am currently using a minolta dynax 7 with some of the old beercan lenses while saving for the a900. 2 reasons why i would get a sony is that it is the cheapest FF DSLR, with in built IS. Of cos olympus has built in IS as well. but they work on a X2 focal lenght. lastly i kinda love the design of the a900 best haha

Hmmm

I didnt jump ship from others, start off straight on Sony. Prior to that, I checked out Canon 450D, NIkon D70 and lastly tried Sony.

Overall the grip, the function, the printout (I took sample pictures on the spot and request for printout for the cameras) you can see the difference, even though its focus and snap and print. ;)

Lastly, I also support Minolta lenses...:bsmilie:

With me since Nov 04.. Yes, have grip.. condition off D7d is I can give 9.5/10.. Very well kept.. Too bad.. I have no intention of selling.. sorry dude..:) I still love D7D colors.. ;)

Ah... no time for photography, guess just keep using the D7D for now I suppose.

Love the A-900 viewfinder.... absolutely gorgeous... used so many cameras, A-900 VF is unbeatable.

I briefly read through the thread, seems no one mention it.

Sony has more intelligent V-grip.

When I first got my V-grip, i thought it would be similar for all. Guess not. :D

Not sure how 3rd party V-grip would behave though.

Not only that, in Singapore Sony or Apple Products are actually promoted through their shops not tv ads which nikon & canon do. And can still sell as hots as nikon and canon.

I can see that Sony is really doing well since there are much more users from other camps coming into the Sony sub-forum and I believe that there are more who have join the Sony camp. Would really like to hear your views as stated in my 1st post. :)

Globally, sony is now at 13.8%. After only 2-3 years!!!

Impressive. :)

13.8%? Wow...that is really something. Kudos to Sony & keep up the good work.

I jumped straight into sony as the 2nd hand A200 was really affordable @ $500

After seeing some shots by sony users, I feel really inspired and looking forward to getting a minolta beercan. though colours might not be the best, i still feel its about the photographer himself/herself as well as lens.

i tried 1000d and like it for its weight, the d40x seems too small for me..

I also jumped straight to Sony as my first dslr, coming from a300 and now a700.

To add on, I feel that when Sony implements some new features, they make sure that they will do it well and usable. A very good example is Quick AF LiveView which I always rave about (yes, till now I still feel it's the best though I have sold it away for a700).

Looking at example from other camps, yes, no doubt they implement them first but it's a half-cooked implementation. Their Liveview is simply not usable at all and I do not know why they do it and make themselves look like clown. Same goes for their video implementation....

Though I do look forward to Sony getting video into the bodies, I do however hope they do it well, just like what they did with LiveView.

And the thing about image stabilisation, I have heard from some professionals saying that whatever technology (whether in-body or in-lens), there will definitely no improvement be made to the current 2-3stops advantage. Reason is simple...if not all the tripod manufacturers will go bust!!!

Hmm... I am impressed.. Sony is getting innovative.. Btw where did you get the figure? :)

One more reason to get Sony. Sony Style is conveniently located around Singapore. Can easily check in your camera for repairs.

Correct me if wrong. Sony G and CZ lenses is more expensive than Canon L IS/VR lenses?

Comparing 2 different zoom range f2.8 lenses below. There is no pricing advantage even if you have gone for a Sony body with built-in stabilizer. You are still paying the same price for body + lenses.

EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM : $2172 (CP-P, Mar09)
AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED : $2580 (MS, Feb09 )
Carl Zeiss Lens - SAL2470Z : ~$2521.02 9 (taken off Digitalrev, exch rate using 1.5)

EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM : $2845 (CP-P, Mar09)
AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED: $2940 (MS, Apr09 )
Sony G Lens - SAL70200G : ~$2989.35 (taken off Digitalrev, exch rate 1.5)

If CZ is cheaper or the same price as the L lenses, I think Canon can close shop already. :bsmilie:

I guess you may be right, but you are still paying for Liveview and video (maybe not 5DII) that are not fully usable?

Oh? So you can buy a stabilized 24-70 for Canon? :P
