I want to shoot silky flowing water fall and fireworks at several seconds, handheld.
LOL good luck doing that with any camera. A nice heavy dslr will actually give you more stability.
*rolleyes*

Compare pns to pns lah. .. even leica pns offers IS it know.
Not everybody likes to shoot at high ISOs. Technology has not reach the stage here IQ at ISO 3200 is equal to that at ISO 100 and the RX1 is no exception. I for one likes to shoot at as low a ISO as I can get the camera to perform at... all the time. I have encountered in low light environment (not necessarily in the night... just indoors), cameras without IS would have problem taking a shake-free image handheld at exposure levels like 1/8 - 1/10s, even at f/2 if I want to keep the ISO at 100-200. Having IS which is typically equivalent to an EV of 3-4 would have allowed me to take handheld shake-free images under such conditions. How about you tell us why the RX1 need IS?
Given that the lens is a fast 35mm, when are there situations where u have to shoot handheld at shutter speed slower than 1/30 sec (before IS kicks in)? At f/2 and iso 3200 (which is clean for RX1), u probably need to shoot with lens cap on before IS kicks in...
We're comparing full frame to full frame. The Leica pns has a much smaller sensor. Then might as well compare leica pns to rx100

To be honest, I dunno if u trolling me or u really think IS can do such marvellous stuff...

IS need not be in the lens. Sony already have Steadyshot that is built into the body for their DSLRs and the Steadyshot INSIDE assembly is not really that big.Yes I agree with what u have mentioned. I mean, end of the day, having IS definitely beats no IS. But the tradeoff? Assuming the lens gets oss, the shake due to extra weight maybe offsets the is partially.
And in practical sense, if u r so anal about iso 3200 noise in full frame, then u shldnt buy RX1. Buy compact with IS and shoot iso 100. Clean n sharp.
Everyone wants to shoot iso100. But when we can't, it will be technology that help us get the images that we want, which is why new sensors boast better resolution at low iso, and lesser noise at high iso.
Cheers

and imagine, Leica doesn't even have AF. Maybe Sony should remove AF and double the RX1 price?

Of course it doesn't have IS. The camera got announced months ago and people discussed the specs for ages already and still some folks are surprised it isn't an interchangeable lens camera and it doesn't have have IS. Amazing...![]()
I rem this phrase that keep coming out in the past in CS : 没æä¸è§æ¶ï¼æä»ä¹é£æ¯ç §ã ( bo tripod, shoot simi landscape or scenery).
IMHO , my tripod is the most steady one already ...

The RX1 is a front heavy camera due to the huge and heavy Zeiss lens. Having a little more weight in the body and maybe even slightly bigger body may not be such a bad thing in this case. A more balanced centre of gravity might make for better and less shaky handholding experience.
And you are right about just getting a normal compact with IS to shoot low ISO compared to getting the RX1 at 4x the price. I have the RX100 and it is to me a better value for money camera. It have IS and can take good handheld low ISO images. And if I want or need to take high ISO shots for any reason, I would use it in the Handheld Twilight or Anti Motion Blur modes and get surprisingly noise-free images at high ISO speeds of 3200-6400.
