Sony DSLT-A77 and 16-50 f/2.8 SSM hands-on review

At this point in time any Tom, Dick & Harry can make their own assumptions, good or bad, on the various previews, all over the web, about the JPEG output of the A77.

IMHO, it's grossly premature to assume the worst. Why many have made up their mind is kinda unfair to the product. As a A700 user and future A77 owner, I'll rather, at least, wait until a full, credible review before I make my judgement.

I definitely know I'll shoot in RAW and sometimes set to RAW + JPEG. I'm no stupid consumer and buy things based on previews and definitely not a Sony fan boy.

JPEG is just for convenience to me and it's kind of absurd to shoot in JPEG exclusively with a A77. Many of my wishlist features are there and JPEG IQ is not highest on my list. Better RAW output , egronomics and micro adjust, top the list. Even without a OVF or using a Translucent mirror instead of conventional mirror is a non issue to me.

It's just a tool and yes it's not perfect but I can forsee it will help ease my photography hobby usage.

So it's definitely not an end-of-the-world thing in this kinda issue, which can be fix with a firmware upgrade.

IQ in Jpeg is one thing but the other plethora of features ensures me I'll definitely get the A77. Let's not be short sighted.

If you have been a while with Minolta/Sony you'll definitely will already think like me. A700 had such issues too then until firmware v4 came.
So do you think my purchase decision be on some preview and on a non production unit? It serve as a guide to anticipate what the outcome of the product might be.
However, if the review for the production unit of both Nex 7 or A77 is not promising then I would know where I will park my $

you're talking about the guy who GOT the A77 from Sony and wrote a review on it in the other forum.

i wonder where your thoughts are coming from.
Nothing sinister from me, I am just as excited about Nex7 as ppl who own a Nex or Alpha.
Knowing that some of the pictures are from non production units and it also not a A to A comparison.
But a preview is better than nothing.
However, after looking at the 5n vs A77 its kinda big disappointment. Yes, its jpeg but its still jpeg vs jpeg. We are not debating jpeg vs raw.
It just keeping fingers cross and hope that both A77 and Nex 7 will do better than 5n.

Think we all hv very hi expectations fr Sony. But as it stands it improves on number of things fr a55. Think we all wish it's ff like at apsc pricing.

I've no idea but seems like it. It doesn't matter if you u-turn on your first impression IF subsequent Full Review shows better IQ.

It's just the buzz about this issue is a tad too much from many all over the web. Bordering on the ridiculous at times.I blame SAR for over-hyping this camera. I guess ppl have uber high expectations on the A77. Finding quite often Sony latest cameras lately getting compared with cameras that is one or two rung higher in price and capability.

I wonder why so many netizen are so disappointed with it even before trying it themselves.

If you can't wait, go ahead and get a Nikon or Canon in the same price bracket as Sony A77. It's your money.

I m more interested to know whether de price info is correct. De side bar lists de NEX C3 as around $680 (after conversion)! Dats almost 30% less than wat we re paying here!

Thats not something to be surprise..if you are free. you can do some maths.. infact..almost everything is cheaper there..especially the Carl Zeiss and G lenses.. you will be shock..Take numbers from HK and SG Sony style.

infact..not only Sony.. Canon..Nikon are selling cheaper too. You get the best prices in HK usually. (But bear in mind..item may be cheaper. But you have to + your air ticket and hotels..etc. So you might actually end up paying more).

So the price of HKD9990 is true! Wow good price for the body ~ SGD1547. My guess Sony SG will be around SGD1999 then?
