I expected the middle highend body alone to be 2~3K, flagship model 4~5K or above

I am aiming the high-end amateur one

hopefully its between $2k~$2.5K

WOW... this new SONY DSLR is so cool looking, it is just like the Minolta Dynax 9!!!

No questions about it, I'm getting it! ;p

I figure it would be around $2k+....

Last body to get.. promise...! (which was what I said many times before....kekeke) :bsmilie:

If it's only $2K plus I think there will be few grouses on the internet forums... $ONY being $SONY, I expect it to be more expensive than that initially at least...

I don't know about you, but the look of that camera body, makes me drool..!!

I'm ready to burn up to 4k for it! (...muahahahahaaaa....)

;p

I love the old skool looks too! :)
But money not enough at the moment, hehe...

hahahaa... hard core

woot!
a dedicated WB button again
wooott!
haha

Yah!! It reminds so much of the old Nikon F4!!

I like the F4 body - solid, heavy and steady!

;p

Tried carrying it on a long trek with 3 lenses plus your pack... I dun see what's so good about being heavy unless it's for bragging rights... much prefer a perfectly weighted camera that is also light...

I dun think it is only for bragging rights. I prefer heavier cameras because I can hold the camera with more stability and it balances better with bigger lens. Light camera does not instill confidence in me due to its handling. Anyway not everybody who uses a dslr often goes treking.

When the camera is too heavy and you're tired, it will start to shake more... I prefer a camera that is weighted nicely - not too heavy, not too light... the 7D is still a little too heavy with the vertical grip plus 2 NP-400 batteries and a 5600HS flash...

bro, i'll have to disagree. i've shot events 15 hours at a stretch with that config and am still alive to talk about it. the 7d may be heavier, but its definitely more stable to handle given the weight. there are ways to get fit enough to lug it around :) plus, a monopod is a good alternative - i've seen some event photogs use that. anyway back on track, i doubt if the new dslr will be as heavy as the 7d, things are all getting more plasticky and lighter these days.

Which in my opinion is a change for the better... sufficiently dense plastic and well designed mouldings can make for solid build quality rivalling that of the metal bodies of yesteryear...

Pay so much for plastic? Shouldn't the metal body ones command a higher price? Just my 2 cents.

The trimmings can be plastic, but hopefully it has a solid metal chassis incased. Most of the higher end DSLR wasnt meant to have a lady friendly size or weight anyway, hahaha! Fine for my relatively big hands, I hate to fiddle with a small and light camera coz i will feel very clumsy with it. Being heavy is definitely not about bragging rights!

Right now I don't knwo whether I should wait for this new DSLR from SONY or pick up another A100 body???

I like its performance so much!

Buy another body only if you need the redundancy or require to shoot with 2 bodies during a fast moving event. From my perspective, it is better to "invest" in the lenses -- the bodies come and go quickly, but great lenses will be around for a long time.

Hmmm... you have a point..

But it's such a delimma... but I'm sure this year when SONY releases their new monster DSLR body, I'll be getting it...

Now I'm just quite stumped and torn trying to upgrade my lens collection... can't decide between 50-500mm Sigma, 200-400mm Tamron, 50mm f2.8 Macro Sigma, 30mm f1.4 SIGMA, and or 17-50mm SIGMA.... :dunno:

a good upgrade would be sigma 18-50 plus a beercan(or sigma 70-200 2.8), a tamron 90mm macro, and yeah, 30mm 1.4 is a nice addition. dun go so fast into the super tele range. it should be the last range you buy(of course, unless you are into bird photography).

depend on what is your current set up and which is more in need really.

Minolta 100-400mm APO is a good lens also.

I'm not really shopping for a need, but since my discovery of Minolta having sold out to SONY, I upgraded my system to SONY's, and now, I'm just upgrading or complementing all my lenses before the GST increase in July.

So if SONY will just release their new monster DSLR body before July the 1st, I will surely pick that up as well and call the end of 2007's photography budget...:(

..sucks.. this eats into my annual holdiay budget... :(
well, keep the money and wait for the pro body next year then
Since this year will likely to come out a 7D like replacement only.

So far, I have three of Minolta's film bodies; 600si Classic, 800si, and Dynax 7. So if SONY is going to do incremental upgrades, I'd probably collect them all as they release. So long as MP size increases are substantial for DSLRs...

Funny thing is, I cannot buy say one single lens or body for say $4k to $8k, co my wife will nag till the sky drops. But if I can show a few things for several Ks spent, she'll be ok...

So, I can only buy in drips and drops... :(

*haiz* sometimes I do wish I remained single.... :D

time for me to give up photography
