Some old lenses tucked away for some time now I have some of my lenses since EPL1 days :-)

Jupiter 9 85mm f2.0 this lens is very nice for portraits as it is soft wide open less PPing needed to get rid of skin details hehehe. Rendering is nice also but colors not as nice as bro Thots Rokkor 58/1.2

Color can PP la... Nice series... soft and dreamy

a couple from today while walking to the mrt after work

all with the 200mm F2.8 - tried getting the sensor reflection problem by shooting at the sun, F16. some typical lens flare but no sensor reflection detected

Sensor reflection issue is only for A7...

thanks bro never like this on m4/3 even on NEX7 but on A7r it nice I think it has to do with A7r has no AA filter which make the a bit better I find this lens too soft before.

I think there is a lot of sample variation for the J9.
Between good ones, there is also the older and newer MC ones.
The old version is often reported as sharp from f2 (or sharper), the later MC ones often reported as soft.
In between are a mix of reports with some users not knowing which version they have, Franken lenses made up of various parts from a few lenses (failed attempts at repair) and poor Russian QC.

I have 2 copies of the J9.
The first one, looks good on the outside, Black MC version (late 70's, early 80's)
It was 'fairy tale' soft at f2 and not good until f4.

My 2nd copy is badly beaten on the outside (old chrome version ).
But its a Franken lens, as some previous owner tried to convert it to K-mount and somehow welded the adapter onto the lens.
But optically its very good.
Sharp from wide open.
I had bought the beaten up lens on purpose, following a tip from some of the knowledgeable folks who have good copies.
"If it looks nice, it was probably too band to be used.
If it was good, it was used a lot (and worn)"

More doggie shots and last for the nitez... this time with FE 55/1.8... happened to find out my AWB was set to Amber +7... No wonder so warm. LOL..

thanks bro I also have two of this lens hehe got it when I was bidding at both lenses one black used condition other is silver same used condition both lens are soft but not dreamy soft. I called these lens ugly duckling mine are M42 so I can use them on A-Mount used it on A77/A55 before and NEX7 with mix outcome. I have posted these before but pulled it out.... now tried it on A7r and its perform well just enough softness and like the way it renders the out of focus area...

They always say that getting the Russian lenses is like playing Russian Roulette :D

I can understand why it poorer on a smaller format. (esp. m4/3)
High pixel density (unforgiving on lens resolution) and longer working distance (ie. more DOF for same FOV).
I did not use any non-native lens on m4/3 because of this.

The best FF camera for J9 is the 5D (12mp FF), super forgiving

Good to see them get a new lease of life on the A7r
