Chance upon someone else thread that does exactly what is done in the smooth reflection app. http://blog.patdavid.net/2013/09/faking-nd-filter-for-long-exposure.html?m=1 A more experimental explanation.

This is nice read :-). But long exposure I think still better as this and the apps won't really remove moving objects in the background like humans etc. but this is great. I am thinking while you shoot like this maybe you could bracket also so when you stitch the image you get a much better dynamic range :-) hitting the a two bird in one shot? Now I need to find my missing tripos plate so I could test this out hehehe

Took it out in the afternoon. . I was wrong.. not possible hand held as app will take multiple exposures.. Some preset takes 64 exposures to be blended. Hence not possible to be handheld... still need to be on tripod...

hmmm. that's what I thought too...
this limitation would have been too much for the app to handle.

but it's cool, I like the idea of stacking multiple images.

Wow I didn't know the playmemories app store was open for SG. Does anyone know if the star trails app is basically the same as the interval shooting app?

I am thinking that if this app replaces the ND filter, then it shld have some effects on clouds also mah?

I'll give it a try tomorrow

They are so far away it shouldn't make a difference at normal shutter speeds.

Thanks for sharing. Does it apply to moving clouds too? Am curious.

Hello, gave it a quick shot today.
$_DSC2588-2.jpg
ISO50 f/16 1/40 (the slowest shutter speed I can get to without an ND filter).
$_DSC2589-2.jpg
256 shots of ISO100 1/100 ... forgot which f/stop I used, but put +0.36 exposure in lightroom.

Impressive... Handheld? 256 shots is a lot though... Does it save every single shot before it gets processed by the app?

I also noticed there are some black dots in the middle of the picture. Dust on the sensor I suppose?

Definitely not handheld! haha... I left it on the tripod :)
Yes, 256 shots is a lot, I just selected the maximum (for maximum effect!).
You don't get to keep each individual shot, the app just outputs the final files.
Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realise! I just looked at the sensor and yes, dust! :)

So cool Ethopia!

Care to share how u got there?

Nice pics. Pls share more :)

I joined a group of photographers who organized the trip to Ethiopia. I am more into landscape, but the people are very photogenic. The 55 f1.8 is a great lens. A few more images,

Opera shots are always great!
I should go shoot some again soon.

the 24 1.8 is a crop lens that doesn't work well on the full frame A7/r

The SEL 10-18 on the otherhand works pretty well on full frame mode. 12mm F8

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I need to sell my arsenal of lenses if I jump ship to A7.
