Sony A6300, finally!

Make sure you test the video function of a6300 carefully at the store before you pay and leave. Mine got below issue whenever i press video recording button and let it records for about 40s... (i did test video function at the store but was never expected this kinda issue so it was like 5s 10s test shot only) Bought from slr revo on 9th Apr.

I ald headed to oversea on 10 Apr thought this could be a good replacement for my A7 and now I couldn't immediately bring back to the store right now. Be back in SG only on 20Apr so most likely I may need to bring to Sony Service Centre directly. Email and Facebook massage to Sony Singapore but no reply yet.

The issue is not just the display showing those yellow and red lines during video recording... but the files actually picking up those and the footage effected as well. totally unusable for my trip right now. just too bad. Hope this help those eyeing on a6300 and thinking of picking it up just before a trip.

Aww man sorry to hear that.. May I know if you were trying to record 1080 or 4k?

Also, what sdcard are you using?

I'm using Sony U3 card 64gb and SanDisk u3. Both can record 4k. I tried recording in 4k,hd n 120fps but all not working...

Aw man.. Yea definitely they owe you a repair then. Fortunately for warranty. Apparently Sony customer service is pretty quiet but the camera just goes and comes back from servicing in a month. (just read that, not personal experience)

Out of curiosity i tested 4k recording continously under room temp. Camera shuts down at the 29.50 mark which is fine. No premature overheating issue. Results could vary when your out in the sun.

That is exactly the same issue I had! Fortunately I could do a 1-1 exchange and the new one is perfect.

So I went about another few shops trying out the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN over the past few days. I'm sorry to report that out of the 3 different units that I've tried, none of them worked well with my 6300.

All of them had difficulty using continuous af (pdaf only worked in the middle vertical 1/3 of the sensor) , and the got pretty warm while repeatedly trying to focus. Then the camera hung, even turning it off and on didn't work, needed to remove and replace lens.

AF-S and DMF worked well however, and contrast detect worked too, so probably a pdaf incompatibility. The shop's a5100 exhibited similar issues so could be a firmware thing.

Davin of Lavikka Photography was really helpful and advised some settings changes but still no dice. It works like a native lens on his a6000 though, so you a6000 guys can give it a try if interested.

As for me, I'll be getting the FE 28mm f2, the closest Sony lens to the Sigma 30mm.

Like to discuss and gather more information regarding A6300 different Focus Areas and how to best use of them. These are my experiences with them so far. Please add on your experiences so we can discuss further.

1) Wide - AF points cover the whole screen and it will prioritize the focusing on the center subject which is near to you. Works well i) when the subject cover most of the screen, ii) when single moving subject with relative clean or isolated background. Don't work well i) when there multiple moving subject ii) foreground and background moving subjects.

2) Zone - 3 x 3 grid AF points moving around the screen which is divided to a 5 x 5 grid. It work similar to Wide.

3) Center - A centre focus square. It appears to be slow and does not seems to be using multiple AF points within it but achieve AF as a single large square.

4) Flexible Spot (L,M,S) - Behave similar to Center but with the ability to adjust the size of the AF square and the position of it across the screen. Use for more precise focusing. The smaller the AF square the faster the AF speed.

5) Expand Flexible Spot - This is a like flexible spot S with 8 AF points surrounding it. Use for precise focusing with 8 assisted AF points to adjust focus for slight movement of subject.

6) Lock-on AF (Wide, Zone, Centre, Flexible Spot, Expand Flexible Spot) - This is the Sony tracking AF function. It basically use the AF Area to acquire the initial focus/subject and track it across the whole screen. Using Wide or Zone, cannot reliably tell the camera what is the initial focus/subject (it is back to the centre, nearer to you or with more contrast). Using Center or Flexible spot, the initial acquisition of focus seems slower especially with focus on one subject then switch to another. Expand Flexible Spot works the best couple with back button AF-on, the initial acquisition of focus is fast between subjects. I tried using this to shoot netball and find the result quite satisfactory.

With LA-EA3, the available Focus Areas are only Wide, Centre and Flexible Spot (L,M,S). Wide behaves as it is with native lens, but strangely Centre and Flexible (L,M,S) uses AF points within the AF square instead and the focus is faster as compared flexible spot with native lens.

Can I check if your camera is set to PAL or NTSC?

Thanks

How much of the bad rolling shutter in 4k video is this camera a deal breaker?

Which shop best to buy a6300? Cheapest also

Or just call T K Foto, SLR Revolution or MS Color which is in AMK. Many ways to get the most updated fee quote!

I think its best to go down to Sim Lim and ask around. Or read through the history of this thread, prices shouldn't have dropped much since the camera has yet to see a 2nd promotion.

Alan Photo has pretty competitive prices, I cannot be bothered with the other shops because they don't seem to have anything in stock.

Anyway, the lack of price transparency or online price listing is just irritating and it is a waste of the consumer's time. Even cameras aren't labelled with their prices when in store. Singapore camera retailers are trapped in the mentality that lack of price knowledge would lead them to get that tiny little last bit of profit.

So anyone has a price? [emoji14] [emoji12] [emoji13]
