Something for Newbies

This session was conduct with 5 eager participants who are really keen to learn. They are listed here:

I do enjoy the session with you guys, senior citizen and gals. You have really made my days and restore my confidence in CS members.

To the rest of the ppl who have listed their names (less the reserves):

a. But back out by informing me at the very last minute - I am just disappointed.
b. Those who back out WITHOUT even having the courtesy in informing me - I am VERY disappointed and please do not count yourself in, for any of my future events, whether free or even paid.

Hey, don't mention it. This is the community that we all serve. And yes, I was glad to see that the participants who turned up were eager to learn, with that lady taking out a notebook and an elderly sir with a camera in hand throughout the class! I am humbled by their desire to learn and enthusiasm.

Those who disappointed chngpe01 should apologise to him (via PM) for pulling a fast one on him. He took a lot of effort to prepare presentation and notes for the participants, and it was such a disappointment to him.

For those who attended, I hope you have learnt much and hoping to see more pictures from you in the near future. Happy shooting!

i learnt alot from u today!

taken down alot of tips (yesh, tt nerdy person is me) and also lots of note-worthy quotes as well. shame on those who didnt turn up! u were missing out BIG TIME.

Hi chngpe01, you're right in being disappointed. We lost a seat in this excellent learning opportunity to some of these MIA people....and now they dont turn up!!?!!? atrocious behavior esp those that did not even bother to inform more so. :nono:

Hey, wow...u had a presentation & gave notes etc!? Possible for you to at least share those with us? Given that we did not qualify for the session due to dslr ownership, the presentation & notes would at least be helpful in learning some of the skills.

Maybe you could email them to me or post them somewhere we can download etc? Can? Thanks in advance!

As mentioned to the "class" earlier this morning, here are a few books that I would recommend.

I have bought some for my students in the past, and would recommend them (or something similar) to start you off with Digital Photography.

For those who are interested in the real fundamentals of photography, I still recommend you to pick up a few books on FILM photography as many of the basics still applies today in the digital world.

If you are into e-books, you might want to look at this page.

Hope all of you are more fired up for photography, and start to learn the basic functions on how your camera works.

But at the end of the day, the only way to attain better pictures, is practise. So shoot, shoot and shoot!

actually it is not about the passion of photography, but about the lack of a communal spirit. nowadays many people wanted the easy way out. no doubt that new technology have make a lot of things simpler, but the problem is people do not want to do a search engine search inside and outside of the forum, do not want to get books and magazines, but wants the best out of the lowest budget and the least effort, and worst of all, on additional efforts by others.

we can however get around it by sharing. i post a question that i do not know and gets answers faster than if i sort out on my own, and i give answers to others faster than if they sort out on their own. i understand the difficulty of getting specific answers, which is why i'm concerned over FAQs and eventually try to get one up myself. and with regards to my computer hardware with which i'm quite illiterate with, i'm grateful for the help fellow forumers have given, all thanks to the communal spirit of sharing.

having an interaction also helps to consolidate that and i think chngpe01 wanted to round it up things (which i'm sure newbies can eventually find it out for themselves but with more effort and time). but i guess posting in the forum is so much faster and easier than to meet up. with the limited places, forumers will try to grab a place first, then decide later, perhaps. but the "easy way out" is at the expense of efforts of another person, that i feel, is really bad.

Thanks, for those who attended I have shown you a book by John Shawn which I used as a reference.

While John Shaw's book is on Nature/Landscape Photography. He delve a great deal in the beginning part of the book to explain the very basic of photography. John Shaw explanation is clear and concise without the technical jargon and easy to understand. Hence I feel it is a good book for anyone to start of with (not necessary to be a nature photographer)

Having a good basic will give you a strong foundation to bring your photography skill to the next level, when you add in your creativity.
