Some pics from the Trip of the Year!

Frankly, I've always thought this sort of trip to be one of lots of fun, food and getting together with like-minded people.

We should see it more as an excursion than a on-location professional shoot with individual photographers having one-on-one sessions. The shoot itself is just part of the whole experience. Judging from the partipants' response, it seems that they are very happy with it and feel that they have gotten their money's worth. That's the impt thing!

Can't resist the temptation to say something, but this Auntie has made the shooters that go for the trip enjoyed themselves, actually wished I joined the trip.

But then again, to travel all the way up, to shoot in Malacca, none of this shots look like you guys travelled that far. Shots look like they are done in East Coast Beach and Har Par Villa.

Not trying to be sacarstic, but, Auntie, next time you want to go that far for a shoot, make sure the location is unique and special enough to go all the way there.

And the costume the "talents" (they are not classified as models, even if they appear in print ads) wear are total mismatch and kinky. Sexy can be define in alot of ways, not just less cloth. So many themes but none match the beautiful malacca, what's the point?

Make the location and costume work together, pretty pictures are not good enough to be the reason to go that far.

You can still eat and shoot here, without all the hassle. Maybe will enjoy more.

Or you can get a creative(Art director) & stylist to work together to help to set the theme for the location. I am sure you have some creative in your circle of students. Give them a free trip, or pay them a token. Sure they would want to do it in the name of fun.

As mentioned very early in the trip, we are not here to make money. And yes this trip is solely done by only one PERSON! Joanne was the organiser, coordinator, finiancial controller, negotiator, crowd controller and so on. Some of the ideas was a last minute contribution and ideas by us.

We love to get Creative Directors and Stylist to help us but in order to bring the pricing down to the lowest, we had to do it by ourselves.

As for the outfit, it's not that we want to mismatch but we always love to try something new. It is so boring if we see the same kinda of outift all the time. We dare to try something out of the blue. In fact we are glad you all notice some changes in the outfit. We love changes all the time and we would still change in our next trip. Nothing to hide lar......

We decide to go Malacca because of beautiful historical buildings but due to the last minute change in outfits by the models, we had to settle for something closer to our outfit themes. If we were to shoot the Hawaiian Theme with a historical building, I am sure there will be more comments again. We always try to satisfy our participants as much as possible. We cannot satisfy all.

Reason for going so far is to take a break from Singapore scene. Sure there is Haw Par Villa and East Coast but the whole idea is about trip is to get ouf of Singapore and have a good break in Malaysia. Besides that, when we are in a group in the bus, we have more time to talk and exchange ideas. So why settle for less? Interaction with other photographers are part of learning experience.

We are learning. Nothing sacarstic about it. I think you are too sensitive. If someone has a suggestion, we would love to go to their trip too. This is only our second outing. So there is plenty of things we want to learn to be better organiser. Peace man.....

Mistakes cannot be hidden, its obvious, just accept and admit. All outfits are passe anyway. Nothing new or fresh

Oh we have nothing to hide. Everyone makes mistakes. So do we. Outfits depends on how you mix and match on the spot. If we can we will bring our wardrobe with us. As mentioned, we had last minute changes so we had to make the best out of it.

As a photographer we always need to adapt to many changes and make the best out of it. We are organising for the sake of gathering photographers and commune with one another, making new friends and meeting up old ones.

We try not to OVER stress too much as this was basically a relax outing. So we do with what we have. If this was a commercial shoot, by all means shoot us! So relax bro, all the participants mentioned by meljes was very happy about it.

Come join us and relax yourself. I think you must be to stress from your work load.....:sweat:

I think you have to understand the initial objectives and premise of the trip first. Which is a mini getaway with 6 models, 2 locations, MUA, good fun, good food and all for a sum of $198.

Having said that, I believe to achieve what you have said are not beyond the organizers. But at what cost? Sure they could put in more time to research, engage an art director, a top grade stylist and supermodels even. But can you do all that for that sum of money and break even? I don't think so. Will they want to transfer the cost to the participants instead? I can't speak on behalf of them, but I do not think that will work either.

In any case, my expectations are managed and I had fun with the price paid. I believe most of us did. And that's what matters. To expect otherwise is a off tangent don't you think?

Several comments have been contributed since I voiced my observations. It's nice to see at least another person who appears to be on my wavelength.

Alright, not being cruel or harsh, I will accept the explanation of the trip's purpose being a get-together of like-minded people (or photographers) to relax and use their pricey cameras. Seriously, I would attend 1 of these shoots occasionally myself to know more fellow photographers.

However, if we are all out on a paid trip (excursion or get-together) to photograph a model, perhaps the objectives should be about photography and not merry-making chit-chat? I mean, be concerned about what you're shooting and ultimately showing in your portfolio?

For so many years and even until today, the model photography scene in Singapore is ruled more by quantity and not quality. Seriously, I have observed this for many years, realised its potential flaws and problems, and decided to go solo. Going solo means you have more say and more control over what you want, what you need, what you must get, or risk a catatrophic failure to your photographic image and professional image.

I believe it's the stress of catering to masses that results in a fall in quality. Driven by quantity, not quality, could be why Singaporeans so often have last-minute problems of not having this and don't have that.

I noticed that most Singaporeans are overly concerned with price. Perhaps it's about time we woke up to the saying "you pay for what you get" and be concerned about the style of images they shoot and add to their portfolios? Pay much more for just 1 good, properly planned, nicely conceived, tastefully styled shoot, and you will have images worth keeping and showing to an audience. Think quality, not quantity.

I must say that many of the photographers in Singapore are technically competent and excellent, many better than I am. Day in day out, they talk about sharpness, saturation, exposure, etc, however, they are lacking creatively and artistically. As I have explained earlier, you don't need a creative director, just a good mind to research your ideas before doing a shoot.

Why don't you, as hip as you may be, organise a shoot with 6 models and 30 photogs, with a limited budget, and show us what is fresh and not passe???

Wonder what mistake did the organiser made? The shoot turned out as we had expected. Lot's of fun and shooting. If I were looking to create a perfect shoot, it will be me private. I don't believe we have any illusion that out of this shooting excursion, we 1) can control all the elements, 2) expect to get that one perfect shot, and 3) everything will go according to plans.

Do not insult the models, or talents as you call them. An apology is expected.

Joanne is not an auntie to you, please address her accordingly. An apology is also expected.

If this trip is a "merry" trip, then just admit it. The models are all very pretty and good, the photos are all well taken by competent photogs, the trip is well organised by the hardworking aunty, and everyone enjoyed it, then it is really worth its value .... this is important.

Cool down guys.......this is good observation from all walks of life. It's ok. We need to give and take. Since there is some suggestions from experts out there, we would take it as a learning experience from them.

Actually, top not blown yet, but some comments made directed at the models are NOT acceptable.

And I just wonder, why are the detractors are all from people who did not go on the trip? My take is, they get their jollies from attacking and criticizing others. They need a life!

And you were absolutely right, those who went on the trip, we had fun and a good time. Then, I wonder once again, why were a few, who were not on the trip, kept on trying to make us feel that the trip is less of a success, if not a failure. I wonder.

UNLESS u're 1 who WENT 4 the trip n AM not happy abt the whole thing. i believe the only complaints we had, or at least I had, was that the WEATHER was a killer!! i got BURNT!! n a tanline. @#$%!! heh.. but its alright.. oh n also BL@@DY mosquitoes!! make my legs all bumps n red until they cant even snap my legs.. hahahhaha..

for those who DID NOT GO n r complaining abt the location n dress inappropriate.. its not YOUR losses wat.. u should be "thankful" that u din waste any effort or $$$ going 4 it.

anyway.. the pictures come out really nice!! (this means u guys gotta post MORE) *smile*

I went for the trip and did feedback to Joanne & Danny regarding the outfits and location, but no biggie lah. Nothing personal or "offensive". Dun be offended, that's not what he or they are trying to say.

There's some valid points.
