thanks for the kind comments sir troyp.... i use the built in flash of the d60 because i dont have any others yet... i plan to buy an sb400 or sb600 soon and use a diy catch light made of a white ice cream cover.... i used to use tissue paper and fold it on my pop up to control the light, i eventually bought a pop up flash diffuser and am now currently using it.

What diffuser and where did you buy it from? If it diffuses properly on a D60, then it's definitely worth buying

hi troyp.... this is the diffuser i am using... it costs php350 here in the philippines, roughly around $12sgd. i'll try a diy diffuser because this one sometimes leaves white marks on the subject especially in macro... :)

Thanks, I think I saw this for sale in a CS thread, I might get it to try.

yes and the best part is it is not expensive.. i noticed it also offers some kind of protection for my pop up flash... kind of like a lens hood's use to the lens : ):) :)

thats good. the best $10 you will spend hahaha. just be aware maybe if you use them together there might not be enough light to reach your subject... personally i think it would be best to get an sb400 especially for the real close shots : ) :) im planning to get one maybe next month ;)

I already own an SB600, but still find it a challenge, and get inconsistent lighting.
I don't have any problems with the inbuilt flash, apart from the obvious harshness.

i'll try to see some other options regarding the diffusers hehehe :)

Just got my diffusers, but haven't tried them yet. Have you found any use for the blue/orange ones yet? I will take some shots for comparison, see if my DIY is better ;)

hi troy i didn't know there were blue and orange ones... mine only came with the white diffuser... let me know how it comes out.. my usual setting is f11 or 16, with iso 100, and shutter speed at 1/50 to 1/80 with the pop up at full power :)

Awesome macros. Love the caterpillars shots.

hi troy i set my camera on a tripod and set the focus for the pinetree leaf, it took me about 15 to 20 shots to finally get the correct one.. good thing this dragonfly kept going back to the same spot after every shot and flash :) hows your diffuser coming along?

with regards to the motion blur, there was some on the wings but through the efforts of pp i was able to "take care of it" hehehe

What sort of shutter speed do you need for these sorts of motion shots?

IMO The $10 set of diffusers aren't as good as my DIY diffuser. The plain white one has a slight orange tinge to it, and I found that it may cast a bigger shadow.
I still prefer my own 2x DIY meiji bottle diffusers.
I did create another diffuser which is still meiji bottle plastic, but it's a small one and fits over the inbuilt flash. The results were similar to using the flash on a lower output level, so I scrapped that idea. The lighting is still better with the diffuser over the end of the lens ;)

with regards to the shutter speed i think it varies with every situation.. this dragonfly was kind of a slow flier, so with my existing shutter speed it was just right (with some pp). i tried the same speed on other insects, e.g. a bee and it produced more blur than this dragonfly shot... i think i'll try your diy diffuser.. hope to get better results from it. did you notice the difference in color with my flower with and without pp? :)
