well.. instead of posting here now.. grab it out and start taking pics of.. i dunno... the monitor? at least get a feel of how it's like while u look thru the vf.. :)

yup thats what ive been doing, first impression (part 2)

its taking some time to get used to the controls, apreture/shuttle speed / iso ..

not easy to get a clear shot at max zoom, always blurry.. probably because my room is not bright enough, but there is flash though :dunno:

even at high iso

haha, its quite embarrassing actually, i guess every website i went to or review i read always assumed that the reader would know that you couldnt use the lcd :dunno: :dunno:
simple because ppl take photos by viewing thru the vf for the past 100 years.

I didn't post for quite some time, but this is really something ;(

DSLR........... LCD view finder....

2 ways i can think of...needs lots of imagination though... ;)

1. hold 300d in front of you as you would with a lcd-preview-capable cam. aga aga aim and fire

2. look thru viewfinder and imagine that its a tiny lcd screen...

ok i'm out of tricks...

but seriously, whats wrong with using the viewfinder? firstly you will conserve battery power. secondly you will be able to hold it properly and minimize camera shake. just takes some getting used to for you i guess.

i guess its so much different from p&s, i started with s45, too big so i bought the ixus i,and with the ixus i , its shoots so fast that most of the time, i stretch out my hand and just take shot after shot.. but after a while i wanted more control of my cam, and the ixus i wont give me that

its gonna take some time to get used to using the vf i guess

this applies not only 300D not Dslr, it applies on all cameras include the camera phone.

hmm seeing as u don't know about slrs having only vf to frame shots, then maybe u dunno about half pressing of the shutter to get a focus lock. but then again, in digcams also same, half press to get a lock, recompose and fire off. so that's a tip for ya!

dont worry..you will get used to the viewfinder very fast. just a change of mindset only. go forth and shoot! :)

Hahaha... it's not embrassing lah... juz that SLR means "single-lens-reflex".... by defination of it's nature... there's no LCD preview.

There was no assumption on the website also. cuz this is a case of you don't know what you don't know.

But to start a thread... you might like to phrase it differently :bsmilie:

Hope you will enjoy your DSLR like me when i first got mine :)

Could be due to handshakes... wats the max zoom? If its 55mm (kit lens) then try it with shutter speed 1/60 and f5.6 at ISO400.... you should get quite a sharp image.

Lesson 1:
Shutter speed = 1 / focal length
to eliminate handshake due to long lens and handheld.....
;)

Maybe because the thread name had "wtf" in it;
or because it was something most people could answer :)

ah well, i just got it this afternoon, had to go out, now im just got home... cant really play around with the cam...

any tips and tricks i should know??

as this is my first experience with dslr, its harder to use the lcd panel to control settings then lcd screen ;(
Now u noe, photography is NOT an easy task.

If photography is made so simple like any ah kow and ah neow can compose thru the viewfinder, den professionals and serious ameuters wun be taken seriously with their cameras.

My initial thoughts jumping frm a P&S to a DSLR is not "How come cannot compose thru LCD?". More rather, my thoughts are, "Now THIS IS Photography and the true SKILL one needs to be a master."

If u are still complaining after reading all those replies, my advise: Do us all a favour and sell it off. Don't 'throw' our 'face' (as well as urs) and say, "DSLR no good because cannot compose thru LCD screen."
