Some nice photos dude. But how do we differentiate "street/candid photography" vs. "invasion of privacy"? I wouldn't want anyone taking my photo without my knowledge also. :(

The streets are public places. Even if some places are private eg a shopping mall, its still a place openly accessible to public, unless the mall management disallows it. ;)

Street photography is not spying or voyeurism even if some of the techniques used might be seem as so. If stealth is used, it is to preserve the candidness and the emotions of the subjects/scene.

I urge you to read this article/discussion about street photography.

Some of the images are oversaturated, so watch that in post-processing.

Watch your focus also...some shots where you intended for a pair of subjects to be in focus only rendered one subject in focus.

Yup, noted! Thanx! :)

Yup, agree with calebk.

On top of that, try not to use ISO Auto of D80. I used to let it run Auto too, but then, realise the noise is too bad for me to accept. I feel, maximum acceptance of D80 ISO is 800 nia. At least for me.

If possible, try to find out what is the favourite focal length you like to shoot at. Then go for those with f2.8 or something. (I know it is a bad thing to tell you to BBB, but, it does help for low light condition). You can try getting a 50mm f1.8. I tried before at ISO 400 at night, the result is pretty good. But only apply for portrait.

And for landscape, if you wanna take, try to go manual. Use long exposure and smaller aperture. And i am quite sure you will get much better result.

And ya, i admire your courage to shoot in the face of your subject. ;)

Keep up the good work bro~:)

Thanx Yapster, for all the tips. :) And what you said is true indeed, in fact I had been irritated by those 1600ISO shots that are too grainy for my liking and I had been thinking of trying 800ISO like what you said.

All these shots are from the Nikon 50mm f1.8. My the other lens is Sigma 30mm f1.4, and the 18-135mm kit lens too. It seems like I love the 30mm the most, followed by the 50mm.

And yeah, I really hope I had shot the Riverside point building at at least f8 but its a newbie mistake, I shot everything at f1.8 :embrass:

Not all are shot straight in the face, some pics the subjects donno I am shooting until I had shot, some donno all the way. I follow my sense to switch between courage and stealth mode, though sometimes my senses not accurate, like the baby incident. :sweatsm:

haha yes, i hate the noise issues on my D80 as well. DO note though, that at iso 800 most of your exposures will have to be quite long (1/10-1/25) which does make for blurry subjects. so you may have to just endure the noise to keep sharp subjects. at least, thats the issue i faced.

Then again, its true. Win some loss some thing.

So I guess I will stick to Auto ISO up to 1600 for street, especially night streets.

And for photographing controllable subjects, then will change to 800 max.

looking at your pictures, i was surprised to see you were using a 50mm lens. great courage at pointing it at people.. and good luck with your street photog!

Those pictures are good!!~~ Frankly speaking, if you want to get some good shots you need to break some rules, only risk of getting into trouble. But hey, isn't photography a form of art and in art there are no rules (or rather YOU set the rule) for better creativity!~ Good job!~

Thanx, yeah, I actually use 30mm and 50mm most of the time.

I had been practising discreet mode too, coz I learned that people are more natural when they don't know your shooting.
