Singapore Fireworks Festival 2004

Alright, I guess it's time to decide where the place to be should. My idea will be each different day shoot at different location. But those who can't make it for the 3 days won't benefit it. So how you guys think which location is the best to take.

Actually I have access to one of the tall skyscrapers. Not sure if shooting through the glass would be ok. Backdrop would be the bridge and Marina Promenade though.

I don't want to spend 6 hours to setup and wait, then 8 mins to shoot them fireworks.....so i guess no benjamin sheares bridge. :bsmilie: I can drive but i doubt i will do that. I still remember the Esplanade opening nightmare!! (also fireworks).

Would 12mm be too wide? (18mm effective).

Wah lucky sia you. I think shooting thru glass shld be no problem, provide you turn off all the lights in your office so that total darkness, to prevent unwanted ghosting/reflections from any lights. Actually shoot from tall builiding best, can take in the cityscape and also avoid jostling with the crowds.

Yah the Esplanade opening fireworks was horrible...huge crowds...I was there but didn't shoot the fireworks tho.

12mm (18mm effective) is more than enough liao.

Yea, shooting with the lights off is mandatory, inside dark outside bright (same as what i do for aquarium). I have shot through the aquarium glass and it's ok, optical quality seriously is not really affected, but that is clean glass coz i can clean it. I just wonder what would be the effect with office glass, if i am not wrong it doesn't look too clean from the outside and i can't clean it. :sweat: I think i may be forced to shoot wide open and not aperture sweet spot of f16. (minimize the dust)

From that angle, i don't think can see much of a cityscape since it's facing Sheares bridge and behind is East Coast skyline + sea. At nite i guess it'd be the orangey street lamps of ECP and Sheares and just a few dots of light out in the sea.

Maybe you should also clean the glass window, inside and outside of the building before you commence shooting. Same as what you do for the aquarium. ;p

See u there man! Will be 'camping' on "higher ground" from abt 4pm onwards. Must go early to chope place lar!

Here's a blurb from Friday papers (ST), read off my mind,

"Each display approx. 10 mins duration. 1st & 15th August will start at 8pm, 8th August start at 8.30p.m. There will be more than 3,000 shells used for the three events, which will burst from a height as low as 20m to the highest at 400m. Each display will be choreographed to music broad cast from speakers located at Esplanade Waterfront, which is also the best place to view the displays. The first display will feature rock music."
