Thanks for the reply.

Just wondering if it would be cheaper if we got it overseas....
The key word is IF you can find it....
The DP1 seems to be sold out everywhere that it's available overseas or else it's not released yet. In the States, it's sold out in minutes after stocks appear in the catalogs of online shops like B&H or Adorama etc.
I think it's more readily available in Europe but prices are not cheap there either.
So yes, IF you can find it overseas, you could probably get it cheaper than locally.

The other consideration of course is that sets bought overseas have no local warranty coverage and Sigma is not known to have good quality control in their products. You would not be entitled to 1-for-1 exchange or free servicing within the warranty period if yours is a grey set.

I discovered a hot pixel in the LCD display of my set within the first week and I got an immediate 'no-question-asked' 1-for-1 exchange at my local dealer. Try doing that with a grey set ! ;)

to local (s'pore) DP-1 owners,

what is the warranty period given here for the price of 1.6k? 1 year?

At the end of the day, nothing beats a big CCD (or CMOS) sensor for good image quality. : )

Kudos to Sigma for coming out with this revolutionary camera, and I do foresee the majors like Canon, Nikon etc rethinking their roadmap for compact cameras. I really hope to see top flight digital compacts with IQ on par with the DLSRs, very much like the film days when top compacts like 35Ti rival their big SLR brothers for IQ!

Good to learn finally the DP1 had landed after ages of delay.

Looking forward to buy one when the prices stabilise and street sets are available. Hopefully in a couple of months.

I really can not forget the color rendition of the fovean sensor on my late SD9.

Why wait? It is available at the local authorised Sigma dealers for some time already. It is just that some dealers prefer not to keep stock but will indent from Sigma Singapore if there's any orders from customers. The local prices are already quite stable in that nobody is selling either at higher or lower than the RRP. Unless you are referring to used sets, the price for new sets will not be dropping any time soon, seeing that the worldwide demand for the DP1 far exceed the ability of Sigma to supply.

Who knows... maybe the price might even increase.... as it did in the States where Amazon has already increased the selling price from US$799 to US$899. :dunno:

I doubt the price of Sigma DP1 will drop, even so not that much. As there isn't any compact like this one in this price range to offer such good quality photo.

i don't think i'm a 'friend' of sigma. i only got 2 of their products. haha..

i think the 3yr was given at the last IT show, i do not know if they offer it outside of it.

Also as for grey set, pls do NOT quote me on it, but as long you have the proof of purchase to show item in question is under warrenty, it's still covered, 'service n labour' is chargable, but parts should be covered under warrenty.

wat i know, sigma jp are the one enforcing the local dealers to recognise the warrenty, but there's a high volume of grey sets, our local distributor has highlighted it to sigma jp, so this 'benefit' might change anytime.

also pls do not quote me on this.

cheers
