2013 Sigma 120-300m F2.8 DG OS HSM (S)

Maybe I expected more but the photos looks kinda.... ermmm.... underwhelming (or lack of a better word).

Wondering if its the rain or the camera used or maybe its just my screen :(

I thought the quality was quite good, the pop is not as prominent as the Canon EF 200-400 F4 IS used in the Olympics but I guess the dull light makes it harder and besides, he was using a Canon 40D, quite an antique for a modern lens. I wonder what is the modest price that he was refering to.

I'd take that review with a LARGE pinch of salt, horrible reviewer with uninformative details.

No idea what settings he took those shots too, f2.8? f4? Paired with a 40D no less...

I'm also thinking the bad weather plus the 40D might have caused the photos to turn out like that... hopefully with my not so new 1D4 on a better lighted day will be better.

I did hope for bigger photos with exif but maybe I am expecting too much...

I understand from the editor that a Part 3 is planned, looking forward to more exciting insights then! :)

I did not know the latest lens with USB was already out. Anyone know the estimated price here in SG?

Got a hold of it just a while ago while in the Svc Ctr...the 120-300 OS. SEXY BLACK and hood is metal. And the custom settings to shooter's application using dock.

Rrp should be ~$4k+...

Had to turn down the offer for test shots as i was in a rush...

RRP 4K+, maybe street price high 3K plus.

I wonder if it is worth it to purchase the previous "newer" OS HSM version as the grey sets seem to be going for 2.8k on ebay... compared to the high 3K of the new lens. Optical formula suppose to be the same, more of external lens housing and material differences.

Ricleo, yeah i agree on the price part. Although nice being able to self tune using the dock,is pricey. I am not quoting the mentioned price given yesterday and i really hope it will be lowered to the figure you think.

The lens strap is no longer through the single point on tripod collar but more like an L lens with 2 loop points. However it is still on the collar. I wonder, after leaving the SSC, the design will suit user like me,who cross sling my current version..the strap loops did not seem to offer swivel typed design...i may be wrong coz i was in a hurry and didnt check the finer bits.

More switches on the side though, and a CL1 & CL2 at the lowest part for custom focal length setting. I think there are 4 different function switches...shouldve tried testing...bahhh! But it could have also set of the bbb disease... :(

Latest review of this lens ---> Sigma 120-300m F2.8 DG OS HSM (S)

Having owned the previous variant, I must say this new lens is MORE than just a cosmetic upgrade. IQ is improved (similar to 70-200L IS II) and AF accuracy and speed is much better! In sum, the extra $$ is worth it if you're shooting sports and the like. For less critical work like birding, the old version is probably better value! :)
