Sigma announces 35mm f/1.4 DG, 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC OS, 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS lenses

Picked up this little gem yesterday. Stock of the 35mm F1.4 is becoming more available. SLR had 2 Nikon mount yesterday. OP have 3 units on the shelf today but don't know which mount.

Pretty impressed with the PQ so far. Will do some real life shooting this weekend.

I know some bros here have reservations with Sigma lenses but I have no issues at all. I have the 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 & 70-200mm F2.8 and they are all sharp with no focusing issues at all.

1) Shot at F1.4 with the D800. At minimum focus distance of 30 cm. Handheld.

2) 100% cropped. The focus is on the center of the watch. The lower half is blur but is expected due to the shooting angle.

Leave it to you guys & gals to decide whether this is a worthy lens to add to your collection :bsmilie:

Very nice! I am salivating over this lens now!

Kudos to Sigma for improving on the QC!

Ya i am loving this lens, in fact i feel the focus is much better than nikon 24mm f1.4 which i used to own. Everything seem to be much better. even the build and price. Sigma 50mm f1.4 dg used to be my favorite lens but now in my dry box, in fact i just sold it yesterday.
35 mm is good for portrait and general shooting.

True. Then i oso want.

So far the comparisons of the 35 have been with Canon or Nikon. Has anyone compared this to the Zeiss 35mm whether f2 or f1.4?

any updates on the availability of canon mount?..

I am getting this lens to add to my 24mm f1.4, AFD 85mm F1.4, 50mm F1.4 collections. i got no problem with sigma cause i used to own the legendary 30mm f1.4 i believe this 35mm is another level up

Well, I just got this lens from Orient Photo this afternoon, and it's truly an outstanding lens. It's the sharpest 35mm I have ever used (and yes, I own the Nikon 35mm 1.4 AFS..), and the colour reproduction from this is far better than any Sigma lens I have previously used (used to get irritated by the yellow cast Sigma always seemed to have had, in my experience).

There's also a special look, "character" if you will, to the shots. I couldn't be more pleased really. The only area where I believe the Nikon lens trumps this one is bokeh, where Nikon's is MUCH silkier. I guess it depends on what you are using the lens for. If I wanted the bokeh for my street shots instead, I'd just whip out my 85 1.4G.

Test the lens yourself: it's half the price of the Nikon. The truth is, even if it were the same price as the Nikon, it would be a dead heat for me given their relative/respective strengths and weaknesses. The proof is in the pudding, however, and I'm doing some real world tests tomorrow to test this initial impression I have after a few hours.

One thing has to be pointed out: the build quality of this lens is outstanding: it feels and holds almost like a Zeiss lens.

Well done Sigma. As far as I'm concerned, they've upped the ante with a lens that matches the Nikon and Canon equivalents (and in many cases, surpasses them), and they're not charging exorbitantly for it.

Did you meant he 35mm 1.4G??

Waiting for your review of the 35mm f1.4G vs the sigma. I have the 35mm f1.4G and I am not sure if I want to get the sigma f1.4.

Does it make sense to buy the sigma and sell away the nikon? I guess the sigma is better than the nikon in terms of sharpness. But it is a hassle buying a new lens, testing it, then sell away the nikon 1.4G.

Furthermore the sigma is not weather sealed and I do shoot sometimes when it is snowing, drizzling, etc.

Weather seal or not is not really important. I got no problem shooting in light rain for lenses W/o the seal

Don't think it make sense to sell nikon and get sigma 35mm. I am sure there are pro and cons with both lens, but for new 35mm users you have to seriously consider sigma. Existing Nikon and Canon 35mm users perhaps it's good to stay put since you are used to the lens and know best setting for the lens. Somehow i feel that I sigma 35mm will affect the resale value of Canon and Nikon lens.

Would you say the Sigma can produce the 3D isolation effect that Zeiss is so famous for?

If the Sigma 50/1.4 is any indication of what this 35 can do, don't think it can produce the 3D effect Zeiss is capable of.

I owned the Zeiss 50MP, 35/2 and 35/1.4 before and these lenses are superb! Also owned the Sigma 50/1.4 as well but sold that lens after I got the 50MP. Zeiss lenses have that special 3D effect that I so love and which I cannot see in the Sigma offering.

That come with high price for sure. Wish i have those lens.

Haha Bro... Sold all of them away liao to free up funds! :( Left with 2 lenses for my 5D2. A Zeiss 28/2 ZE and a Leica Summilux 80/1.4 R lens. Really tempted to get this Sigma 35/1.4 as my only lens with AF.

Yeah... Zeiss Planar I m having is my perfect portraiture lens... though its cheap, the 3D pop and sharpness is really damned awesome... ;)
