Yeah... Zeiss Planar I m having is my perfect portraiture lens... though its cheap, the 3D pop and sharpness is really damned awesome... ;)

Have not used the 50/1.7 before. Had the 50/2MP and 85/1.4 Planar for portrait purposes. Found the 50/MP too sharp and clinical for portrait purposes. Can see every single pore and blackheads man! The 85 was very nice but I was poisoned by Thorsten Overgarrd and got the Leica Summilux 80/1.4 lens and hence I sold the 85. :)

It's a C/Y mount Contax lens. Less than 400 bucks but a very good Zeiss lens for its 3D pop and sharpness. Bokeh is beautiful too. Is there a lux 80/1.4? I only know abt d 75/1.4. Haha

Yeah I know that lens and was opting between this lens together with the 50/1.4 Planar and the 50/2 MP. Opted for the MP cos of the flexibility to do macro as well. Was my first Zeiss lens and the one which got me poisoned deep deep! :) Used it on my 5D2.

Mine is the Summilux R lens. Apparently one of Thorsten Overgarrd's fave lens.

i am interested but price is high for leisure shooter
Not really since Canon or Nikon don't even have any lenses in the same focal length range and aperture.
By the way, this lens in Canon and Nikon mounts has been available for months locally and is selling for <S$3,600.

I only saw 2 units on the shelf. Both Nikon mount.

BTW, easy to differentiate the 35 mm from the other Sigmas as the box is white. Sigma boxes are traditionally black.

Yup, I got mine from Orient Photo too.....when I went there, there were 3 Nikon mount versions and no Canon ones. Of course the fact that there are only two Nikon mount versions there now is due to the fact that I bought one heh heh :) This was about a week ago....
