Sigma 50mm f1.4 - new batch = outstanding performer

My Sigma 50 f1.4 is reasonably sharp @ f1.4. At f2.0, it is very sharp.

@ f1.4 focus on "L" on Wilson. Slight front focus on "1" but was spot on after calibration by Sigma.

how fast does Sigma Service Centre take to do calibration service?

Thanks.

What i was told through phone: 2hrs for them to do their job on the lens. Need to bring ur camera body there also. Appointment has to be made in advance.

I'm getting my hands on this Sigma 50mm f1.4 today from a friend who is returning from HK. Hs said the focus was clear and fast when he tested it at the shop. I hope I do not have to send it in for calibration. Just want a confirmation...some have mentioned that calibration at sigma is no longer free. is this true?

LOCAL SHOPS Selling this lens @ $830 - $870!!! Screwing us

I ordered from Tin Chueng Online yesterday @ 12pm I recieved it today @ 10:26am (thats under 24hrs) and I paid SGD670 !!! (inclusive of delivery by FEDEX)

I won't be screwed by Local Cam Shops any more!!!

If Local Cam Shops don't take note of this they are silly...

As long as you have a receipt (even from a HK shop bearing international warranty), they will calibrate for you free of charge. You must bring your camera and your receipt for them to photocopy.

Sigma calibration takes only a few hours as long as you have made a prior appointment with them. Tamron agent says calibration takes two weeks ! Makes me wonder whether they have the calibration facilities locally.

If buy locally we are offer 2.5 years warranty. So buying oversea will only have 1 year international warranty. Correct me if i am wrong. Thanks.

Yup its 12month warranty.... but is 1.5 yrs extra warranty worth 30% mark up?

Maybe others can share.... how many bros/sis have the need for a 2.5 yr warranty?

These local shops just jack up the price when they see a lens being popular. I believe it started off at high 700s then 800s now near 900... madness.

This is far from madness, this is profiteering. Nothing wrong with that since rational buyers pay what they think the lens is worth.

not profiteering. just doing what they are supposed to do, ie , make money:bsmilie: they will lower prices when more pple buy overseas.

1) Called Sigma ... give your serial number + shop u bought from
2) Warranty usually covered for defective parts
3) If Shop is not authorized reseller (HK or SG) ... pay 80 for calibration.
4) If you got 2 bodies .... recommended to calibrate with body you use most.

At F1.4 mine not send for calibration yet. If your focus is right on spot, even at 1.4, it should be sharp.

Yeah. Bottom line is that you need to use this lens properly in order to get the best from it.

ya..i have bought this lens too...is really sharp and nice..

Some landscape photos at f1.4. Photos were taken handheld and no flash was used. Without f1.4, there is no way I could have taken these shots with such low lighting using S5 Pro.

Great pic! :D

Thanks bro, the rain had just stopped and the moon was hidden by the clouds. It was a dark night. I went there with my family after dinner, as my son wanted to play water. My Sigma lens was with me and I fired a few shots. Never used this lens at night before. :bsmilie:
