Hahaha, on a fullframe or crop cameras? Looks like you have proved that zoom is not a must to me. I always thought that zoom is a must. :bsmilie:

All picture without cropping. I shoot with a D200 :)

hi guys, i was wondering if the sets sold at OP have international warranty or is it just shop warranty?
thanks..

Hi guys,

After reading this thread and seeing the photos, I am very tempted to get this extremely promising lens. Any one has a Nikon 50mm f1.4 and also has this Sigma 30mm lens? I have the Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens and wondering if anyone can share their views :

(a) whether getting this 30mm lens would be a "must have" when I don't have a prime wide angle lens;

(2) whether the IQ and bokeh of the 50mm would match up to the Sigma 30mm?

Thanks in advance for your views, if any.

Which shop has the best deal for the 30mm f1.4?

mine arrived this morning! @f1.4

Hi Hester, I have the Sigma 30mm F/1.4, Nikon 50mm F/1.4 and Nikon 85mm F/1.8. I feel that the Sigma 30mm is a "must have" especially you do lots of indoor portrait/half or fully body type shooting. I find the Nikon 50mm ( 75mm at 1.5x Corp ) more restrictive especially when you are taking for 2 or more people indoor.

As for bokeh, of course the 50mm will be better than 30mm and the 85mm will be even better than the 50mm. However, if you are unable to fit the subject or subjects in...then what is the point!

Hehe. I also have the same 3 primes as KingKong... the 30/1.4 is on the cam much more frequently than the other 2, but it really depends on your style of shooting, so whether it's a must-have depends on that too. You can consider a Nikon 35/2 as a cheaper alternative.

Performance wise, IMHO the 30mm IQ wins at 1.4. Difference becomes negligible probably at >f2. The 50/1.4 also shows low contrast wide open... and flares up easily. :S

just got my quote from MS... quite steep still: S$665 + 7% GST = S$700+ haven't include filter...

haiz... Dunno whether to get from Orient.. hope i can join the f/1.4 club soon!

this lens brings me back to the good old days of shooting at 50mm

Just get a 2nd hand one from B&S la... :D probably can get one for less than $500.

That works out to be $712. I think it's a good price for local warranty set liao.

Most other shops quote $750 with GST.

I bought mine from Alan Photo for S$749 last week, so $712 is a good price.

There was a notable front focusing problem, but after about 2 hours at Sigma service center it seems fine now.

Haven't had any time yet to take it outdoors. But based on indoor photos can vouch for that its visibly sharper than my kit lens @ 30mm/F4.5 even on D40x.

if you have a friend in hk, you can get it much cheaper there. Got mine for $580.
paid with credit too. should be cheaper if paid with cash.

this is one of my concerns too... if we buy from OP can we bring to Sigma SC for adjusting front focussing issues? it looks like as long as you buy this lens you have to go Sigma SC...

u can avoid trips to Sigma SC because u can test the lens before making your purchase.
if u think u hv front/back focus, then try another one.

this one taken at wide open with only resizing done.
