Ok... Here comes the downside of this magnificent lens. The first day I was at TK, I hadn't brought my camera body along. So I tested the lens with a 500D from them. The AF was sucky - painfully obvious that it front-focused. But the TK guy explained every camera body behaves differently and the same lens might work on my body.

The next day, I turned up again this time with my 50D. With the exact same lens that front-focused the day before, it focused perfectly on my camera! And that was the very same copy I bought. And up till today - I still hadn't spotted any AF issues.

Two weekends ago, a friend of mine, having been poisoned by my pics, brought his 450D to Alan Photo (Funan) and did a test of another copy of the lens. This time again, there were front-focusing problems. Though not as obvious as my copy on the 500D, it was noticeable being a f1.4 lens.

So conclusion - TEST WITH YOUR OWN BODY, make sure it works before buying. Otherwise, you will have to send it in to the Sigma Svc Ctr to get it calibrated.

ah ok! thanks very much! despite reading SO much abt all these issues, i still want the lens cos the results when achieved well is stunning.

post some of your pics leh :D

What a magnificent shot... Only one tiny area in the whole frame is in focus - the eye. Everything else is secondary... :thumbsup:

guys...i find at 1.4...this baby's DOF can get a tad too shallow. These days...i'll shoot at F2.0
took this some times back. all pix taken at F1.4. dolls are displayed in a acrylic box.

Hello...

May I know how much does this lens cost ? Seem like it's darn popular and highly recommended ;) I'm intending to get a Canon 50D body, hence, I'm looking for a suitable and a good to go lens for long term, esp. for portrait and some landscapes...will this lens be good enough for this case ?

For local copy, should be around 750. OP got some grey set, around 660.

Hi, I got it from the mass sale and for $610. Sorry, I did not have photo of it mounted on my E-3 but I will take one for u. ;)

Hello all, i'am intending to get a copy of the sigma 30mm f/1.4, however i have a few doubts about the fov on my camera.

I'am using the sony alpha100 w/18 - 70mm kit lense, would the fov with the 30mm mounted on my camera be the same as the fov when i'am shooting at 30mm using my kit lense? :sweat:

Omg mass sale? where? where? i also want one... was thinking of going Tin Cheung in HK to buy, since the price difference here ($760) and TC ($540) is literally half a ticket to HK.
:what::what::what:

Using a 400D. Sounds like no matter what focusing problems there are, it can be fixed by Sigma Singapore, which is not an issue really.

Any more mass sales out there?? I don't mind getting at $610

Just bought mine!!! :bsmilie:

It's not easy to shoot at f/1.4... the trick is to shoot in hi-speed continuous mode (3 frames at least) and then choose the sharpest. The bokeh is really yummy!

Here're some photos I took with my Canon 7D...

ISO = 200 | f/1.4 | 1/100

ISO = 200 | f/1.4 | 1/200

I think you are right.
I also got mine yesterday and didn't find it that sharp @ 1.4, but i am shooting at home with less light and some time no flash.
Maybe i will try with higher shutter.

It's a bit soft at f/1.4 but sharp from f/2.0 especially when you zoom in 100% crop. People like us can see the softness... non-photo enthusiast won't know the diff :p

Prime showed how it's done in low light! The only light available came from my imac LCD monitor on the left side! Taken at 2am :sweat:

(ISO:3200| 1/6 | f1.4 | Canon 20D + ST-E2 AF-assist)

Go Prime(pun intended)! :bsmilie:

Just took this morning picture of my son
All pictures taken in natural light (but in room so left side of face is bit dark). Looking at these pictures i don't know what to think, why some have very sharp picture @ 1.4 (maybe taken in bright day light?)

f1.4 1/500, ISO800 (only resized and cropped)

f2.2, 1/200, ISO800 (only resized and cropped, artificial bokeh)
