Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Users

Mine looks fine. Did you try shooting at higher f-stops, e.g. f8 and more?

You can also bring the lens alonside your DSLR down to the service center for them to recalibrate too.

Hi Wzierbovsky,

Do you know how they take to recalibrate the lens?
Thanks.

Regards.

Do you mean how long? It depends on their technician's current workload. At best, at least a few hours. At worst, in the case of one of my Sigma lenses, it took weeks as a chip they needed to recalibrate the lens wasn't in stock so they had to order it in.

Either way, the receptionist will ask you to leave your phone number behind so she'll call you when the job's done.

Bring your camera body too.

hi guys, i am a newbie here using a 500D. have the kit lens 18-55 plus a 50mm f1.8. thinking of getting an all-in-one zoom lens for travelling and walkabouts.

thinking of getting the 18-250 OS HSM but want to confirm if the HSM on this lens is really working as I understand it only works for the nikon mounts? the canon mounts are supposedly using micro-motors although its still labelled HSM.

i have also sourced for it as a couple places JO - no stock. AP - 940. CP - 980.
know anywhere else that might be cheaper?

thanks!

Selling a brand new copy of the nikon mount version, please look at Nikon B&S forum. Thanks!

On the other hand...

- Lens sometimes has difficulty autofocusing in low contrast situations, and certainly more than the Nikon 55-200m lens it replaced. This may be a major issue for interested users, so make sure you try it out thoroughly before plonking your $$$.

Found the same problem too, especially at max tele. Otherwise the lense worked great.

My work around though is to rotate the zoom barrel, then refocus - then it usually works fine. Weird. Firmware issue perhaps?

Yup, usually it could refocus after. This might still result in missed shots though some times.

I bought this lens about 2 weeks ago. Its a really great lens with Optical stability, great zoom and sharp too. Extremely satisfied with it.

Is it a must to send the len & camera for recalibration?

I'm planning to purchase Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM or
Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical

Don't know which is better. Please advise.......

Tamron zooms-in/out in the direction of Nikon, and Sigma in the direction of Canon..
it may sound weird but i find myself not favourable in the Canon way of turning the zoom ring.. which was one of the major reasons i gave up using Canon and stick to Nikon..
since you are using Canon cameras, and while other zoom lenses are turning the "right" direction for you, Sigma may be the option..
i haven't got a chance yet to try out the Sigma but according to reviews, image quality is more or less same..
Sigma got HSM though i don't know it may be faster in focussing compared to Tamron..
check this anyway for comparison with Canon/Nikon 18-200 counterparts..

buying 3rd party products sometimes may face drawback in "resale value"..in case you want to sell them back..
but i have no idea still to sell out my Tamron 18-270 ..it is slower in lowlight than Nikon but 105mm more on the tele end means a lot for me :)

Agreed that both lens have good reviews but if the price difference is not much, will Tammy extra 20mm zoom outshine Sigma 4 SLD elements?:think::think:

sorry for the confusion..i meant it on a 35mm equivalent focal length..
Nikon 18-200 gives 27-300mm on my D90 (because of 1.5x factor rite?)
so Tamron 18-270 means 27-405mm on a Nikon DX body..
that's why i meant it's 105mm more than Nikon at the telephoto end.. :)
(by the way, the Canon 18-200 IS will give you 28.8-320mm on a 500D because of 1.6x crop factor of Canon APS-C cameras)
in that case, we can say the Tamron's tele reach is 112mm more than Canon lens..
kikiaw, sorry for a little OT here..thanks :)

Bring along your camera to test, chk the IQ taken from this lens.. also try some shots with and without Optical stabilizer on... this is to make sure you had a gd copy.

i just got this lens... honestly, i really like this lens... e zoom and sharpness is ... but i feel it is quite heavy, probably because i used to the kit lens which is lighter... will continue to use this lens i guess, maybe till i find some lens better than this 1... ;p
