Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM

Hey guys..do any of you get front/back focusing issues after awhile?

When I 1st bought my lens..it was tack sharp out of the box..been holding it for a year now and recently I found out that my pictures were not so sharp..when doing PP i realised that the lens was back focusing quite abit..so I took it out again and using the microadjustments on my camera..realise i had to bring it to -10(or issit +10..cannot remember!) to get a sharp subject(shot at f2.8)..anyone of you experience this before?

My shooting style hasn't changed throughout..always use centre spot focus..recently sent my camera to change shutter button and get pentaprism cleaned but I do not think that will affect the lens focusing..any idea why the focusing will "run" after sometime?

I'm lucky I found this out now..this weekend shooting a friend's wedding and at least I can get it adjusted rather than realising the focusing is crap will doing PP..think I will bring it in for calibration before going for my Europe trip in Aug

Hi guys, i saw this lens has 2 types, one with the gold ring and the one without. Any idea what are the differences? Thanks.

REally interested to buy this lens too!!! but the sony mount is so expensive

Get it. It is quite sharp and contrasty even on my old canon 10d

Dilemma: just got an overseas set, arrived today, but when mounted on my 60d, keeps hunting.

Option 1: return to overseas merchant for replacement set, but gonna cost time and money.
Option 2: send to sigma Singapore for servicing? And expect a bomb!
Option 3: any 3rd party shop can help on this?

Would appreciate any constructive advice. No harsh comments, please. Am already feeling real low now.

What are your focusing on? I rarely gets focusing issues, unless in badly lit situation.

Try to focus on something in good light and with good contrast.

The AF alignment from the service center will works, in the 3rd party do not have it kind of machine.
Either your body can be fine-tune.

Got a response from Sigma US that it is either a firmware upgrade, or a board issue. Now, going to try out the international warranty to see if it works.

Please let us know whether you managed to get the international warranty recognised.

just got this lens today for my 60D! would be bringing it out for a walk soon! did a few test shots at the shop and AF seems pretty fast to me.. though the clattering of the parts make me feel that the lens is fragile despite knowing that it is normal..

Just came back from Sigma. Sent in, recept took in, but said they need to check internally on the warranty coverage. As I did not bring my invoice, I am required to email to them a copy so that they can check that it is indeed from Sigma USA authorised dealers. Once verified, they will honour the international warranty and proceed with servicing. So, they need the warranty card, invoice from authorised dealer, and wait for their call within 1 week.

Does anybody has a copy of the invoice for a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 from an US authorised dealer?

Planning to join this club this coming weekend. I will get this lens for my Nikon D7K. From previous posts, it looks like the reputable shop in AMK and SLRR in funan have the most competitive price in 10XX sgd range... any other shop that you know may have a better pricing?

From what I gather also in the internet, I know I should check the lens before buying: its AF (no front or back focusing), lens hood (should be fit tight) and it should AF in liveview. These are the common problems I have read that previous buyers have encountered. Anything I have miss? Any D7K + sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS users here, what do you think of this combo? Thanks in advance.

An update to my Sigma lens issue. Sigma Singapore has honoured the international warranty, and I have got my lens fixed of the af hunting. And I have also requested for calibration, which they agreed no questions asked.

What I found out from the lady was that the lens must be bought from an authorised dealer from whichever country, and the invoice/receipt must be presented. They will then verify. Mine was, so they honoured the international warranty. Simple as that.

The overall experience has been extremely positive. Now, if only they can help get the lens to be sharper at f2.8 than f5.6... Anyone knows how to? :p

Thank you for the update. Good to know the criteria Sigma Singapore uses to determine international warrenty claims.

Enjoy your lens.

Hi, this lens was given to me and I am just a novice photographer. No idea if it's the lens or me but the pictures taken with this camera isn't as sharp, clear and brilliant as all the sample photos online. May I know how can I verify if I got a bad copy? I don't have any friends who are experts on this so I am relying on the advices given here.
