my favorite lens! hard to beat combo!

Is that the original camera strap that comes with the NEX-7 ?

Nope. The original strap is a thin black strap with the words "Sony NEX-7". And its a terrible and scratchy strap.

The free blk leather NEX 7 bag is more terrible than the strap lol.

With the Nex 7N with kit lens expecting to go for about $2k, doesn't it make more sense to consider the Tamron 18200 PZD (small and light) with either the Nikon 5100 or Canon 600D for about the same price. Leaning more towards the Nikon based on reviews.

Erm. What you said even dosent make sense.
A mirrorless and A DSLR
2 different things. Cant compare.

If you were to say something like that.. Then why people buy Lecia M9 etc etc. They could have get a DSLR and at the same time 2-3 Pro lenses to go along. (And maybe still left alittle money).
:dunno:

Know what you are buying.. and not just judge by the price. though i agree the Nex 7 is alittle ex to me. But what you said seriously.. kinda wrong.

The Xpro-1 will set one back even further. Body with lens alone USD 2.3k. Considering the size and weight, its more than the nex7 on both front.
No doubt, there is a premium in most high end mirrorless body consumers have to pay over DSLR.

Anyway back to Nex 7. Being mirrorless with a short flange distance, it offers versatility to photographers with collection of old manual lenses. By putting various adapters, one can mount practically all DSLR lens , M- Mount lens and legacy lens. The implementation of the ease for manual focusing made the 7 even more sweet. Although this is already possible on the existing NEX series, but the inbuilt OLED EVF and dedicated dials brings it up a notch over the 5n and c3.

The tamron 18-200 with the D5100/ 600D is quite a bulk already. Guess if you are looking for a DSLR, the NEX 7 may not be so appealing for a first time buyer.

Just saw these tourist couple using a nex-7 taking picture in front of the tooth replic temple! Wow.

I have always been impressed by the details captured by a Leica M8 & M9. Used both before and this Nex-7 does not lose out to a M9 in capturing details. You can really get critical focus in magnify mode. The 24MP sensor rocks!

Any feedback on moire ? Seems like there is a very weak low pass filter on the nex7 according to some net reviews

Thus far I have been very pleased with my NEX-7. The kit lens is pretty decent and its the only lens I have at the moment. I do plan to get the Zeiss 24 mm (once Cathay gets some stock) and the 50F1.8 (asked a colleague to but it from overseas).

The low light capability of this camera is awesome. I managed to take pretty good shots even at ISO 6400. If the noise gets too much, as the images are HUGE, you can use Lightroom to do some noise removal and just resize down the photos and all the noise practically disappears.

Shutter lag is non-existential. I also like the layout of the buttons and I find it just as easy to use as my old Nikon.

The EVF is great. I tested it with a couple of folks and many didn't realize it is a EVF until I told them so. The thing I like best about the EVF is the framing and exposure check. If it looks dark on the EVF, the shot will be dark. All your settings can be seen in real time.

On the down side, the EVF seriously eats battery. One battery is definitely not enough. In addition, when you use multi-point auto focus, the CDAF can sometimes get confused in low light situations. I bought an LA-EA2 and plan to get a walk around A-Mount lens in the future.

As for moire, have not had any issues yet. Maybe the stuff I'm taking isn't too sensitive to this kind of issues.

Yup unfortunately, not many realizes the ISO performance of the 24mp sensor is similar to the 5n. Evidence of moire will mean that the low pass filter is very weak on the NEX 7, which has its pro and con. Xpro-1 is making a point that it doesnt has the AA Filter.

although the ISO performance of the Nex-7 is not as good as the Nex-5n (according to some reviews), the resolution just rocks! based on the 24MP sensor alone is worth the price. The built in Evf is just a bonus.

To me it's what I get in terms of quality, ease of use, etc. for the price I'm paying (about $2k). Doesn't matter if it's MFT, Mirrorless, Rangefinder or DSLR as this will be my first DSLR since selling off my A33. Another reason for the 18270 PZD is because it's smaller and lighter than the Nikon 18200 and always prefer to carry just 1 lens when travelling. Also considering the A65 but review not as good compared to the 5100. Now using the HXV9 which is always in my backpack. May change the HXV9 or just get the N5 with 16mm cheaply in BNS later.

Some pics please, Bro!

I heard the other days someone saw at Penang Selling at Rm2200, and the camera shop owner is double confirm that the Nex-7 he talking/selling about. Will wait for another week to re-stock and i maybe heading there to see whether that Shop owner is bluffing or confuse with Nex-5 & Nex-7

Out of curiousity, which review that you read that says D5100 is better ? And I thought the A65 is priced very competitively against the D5100.

As mentioned, the sensor in the A65/A77 , NEX7 has similar ISo performance compared to 5n, and ISO performance is not the only measure for IQ as well. But again, its a matter preference utimately.

I guess you dont quite get my point..
Nvm about that then. Ok since u had a budget of 2k..then go look for 1 that works for you then. Apparently the Nex7 dont work for you. Anyway..im quite curious..how is A65 not as good compared to D5100..Which aspect are you referring to? Cheers.

Not to mention you can mount a 18270 PZD on a NEX-7 too.

Can't remember which photo magazine I've browsed at Page One where they compare the A65, 600D, 5100 and a couple of others I can't remember. Being an amatuer, I just look at the item where "Ease of Use" and also the overall highest percentage which is the Nikon. Also like the guide function and the swivel screen.

Just curious, will the Nex 7N operate in Auto mode if the PZD lens is used. Understand only the E mount will work in Auto mode. I don't shoot in P/A/S/M mode as I only used Auto or ADV Auto. Just need something with better quality than a PnS. Not bothered with IQ, ISO, etc just something simple for about $2k. Will still get the 5N when it's cheaper in BNS.

Frankly, I did play around with the Fuji X1-Pro at the recent CES in Vegas and really like. Should cost around US$1700 plus US$650 for each of the 3 lenses. Total should be around S$4600. This remind me of my early days with the Pentax 110 with 3 lens and still very small. Just aim, focus and shoot. So simple to use.

I doubt the Xpro-1 is easy to use. Its not meant to be a quick snappy P&S .

With the LEA-2 adapter, all sony alpha mount lens including third party can work with AF on the nex7. The adapter converts it into a SLT like the A77. You should read Dpreview on the 5100 and the A65. Magazines either sell Canon or Nikon. I stop reading them already.
