Thanks for helping to post up polar28, there's a lot of difference even from handphone. Very nice photostream pehch4e!

WangTH,
Good shot. What is the difference in quality between Micro Four Third and DSLR with prime len. I shoot with canon 100-400F56, like you say, light and portable.

Compared to my Sony a77 and 70-400mm, the gx1 with 100-300mm does not allow too much cropping. Noise shows. For feather details, seems to me ISO should be below 800. Sharpness of 100-300mm is really not that of primes or your 100-400mm. Must step down a little to get sharpness, especially if you are not filling the frame. BIF would be tougher. Plus points are the video, portability and af for static shots. When it's fast, it's really fast. But when it hunts, can be quite terrible. Manual focusing on 100-300mm is slow. If there is a prime telephoto then the game would be different. You can see the posts on this page and it shows!

get the ZD300/2.8 lor ;p

Get Sony one also can mah! Lol. Honestly I think it depends on how well you get to understand the system. You can see many amazing results in this thread.

exactly right, doesn't matter system, its the man behind :) i think we should have a birding outing soon?

U know my timing is a little tough. Now still a little dry season. Can get a few ppl to confirm if we can have one soon.

Sama sama haha. perhaps when microcosm is back we can have one.

Polar28, thanks for helping to post from my flickr. I was unable to shoot much so far, but will share more very soon with EM1. Btw I have small tuna 150mm F2.0 too, both TC1.4 and TC2.0 other than 300mmF2.8. I can assure those who are worried about "rattlesnaking" with these prime SHG lens (with or without TC) that it should not happen with proper electronic contact points, but I am giving the EM1 setup more rigorous test on possible setting that could cause system lockup. Reason is simple for the battery life is much shorter compared to E-5 (much better after turning off all the non-essentials) and to have the batt in body together with HLD7 batt will be a big pain when it does lock up in the field - you need to remove all batts..... For the image quality and ergonomics EM1 offers, it is very much worth the pain to perfect the setting. Can EM-1 plus FT prime lens give better birding experience and shots - I am very certain.

Least of all, I find Panny Leica FT 25mm F1.4 is impossibly balanced and perfect on EM-1 (blows the new Pro M43 12-40mm)!!! Try the setup on handheld night shot at iso 3200, you will immediately fall in love with the pair..... amazingly good! Sorry for writing too much instead of more photo.... I will post more.

A female taken on the same day... Not a good shot since it was underexposed, but the possibility to recover a sharper and cleaner image from EM-1 raw is much better compared to E-5.

Super Awesome! The lens really showing its power! I really hope for a native m43 birding lens. I am not greedy, 400mm F4.5 or 300mm F4 will be good enough

Crested Serpent Eagle taken in Panti Forest last week. The bird was at a very far perch to show the possibility of cropping down to some 30% using EM1.

Black-Shouldered Kite - taken with ultimate reach possible on 4/3 Olympus system (300mm F2.8 + 2TC giving 1200mm equi) but on EM-1. Remarkably sharper image even at 30% crop.

Some shots from River Safari
(note : Book the river ride in advance before heading down. It was a disappointing trip for me
as the boat rides were full and we only saw half the animals on exhibit).

All shot using Olympus E-M1 + PLX35-100mm
Processed in Photoshop CS6
