Taken using OMD with Olympus 12-50mm kit lens (w/ Hoya HD CPL attached), 12mm, f/8, 1/500sec and ISO 200. JPEG file with PP done to correct exposure, vibrancy, a little sharpening and CA correction.
IMO, i think the picture quality from the Olympus 12-50mm kit lens isnt as bad as what many reviewers would like you to believe. Some cons mentioned are poor corner sharpness, poor contrast, CA pretty bad at 12mm, etc. It certainly does not offer the same high resolution as a prime lens but as a kit lens, i think its pretty decent. CA isnt quite as bad at 12mm and IMO, its much better than Panasonic kit lenses like the 14-42x lens and the 14-45mm OIS lens at the wide end. Having read a number of negative reviews about it, i've actually put up a forsale advert for this lens, even before i had the chance to try it out. Finally, after taking some landscape and macro shots with it, i'm quite glad that this lens is still in my possession. For those who are thinking of flipping this lens before even trying it out, i'd suggest that you give this lens a chance.![]()
I am still a freshman, I find the 12-50 quite a decent lens too. still using it for my walkabout lens. I am the type of person who shoot where i want.although not a fast lens as compare to prime lens, ideal for day time shooting. Perhaps the OMD's iso do helps alot to compensate the weakness of this lens.
