Recent itch of LBA got me going back to film cameras.
Maybe its to make up for the envy of all those gorgeous cameras I could not afford when I was a kid.
The Samurai and the Russian T-34
Got me a FED2 (reputed to be made by child labor and criminals in the Soviet Union in a commune started up by the founder of the KGB). Gorgeous camera and arguably the best FSU rangefinder. Certainly built to last.
Now, before the moderator deletes this post as non Pentax related. Let me get back to the Pentax side of the story.
The thing that got to me after seeing and handling the FED2 was that a Pentax ME Super is smaller (discounting smaller RF lens), lighter (but as well built (in fact better built)) and comes with a bit more in creature comforts. The mirror slap did not come up as sounding louder than the cloth curtain shutter on the FED. In other words, it throws out two arguments for RF cameras. One, that they are smaller; Two, that they are more silent.
Well, it turns out not be be always the case as is here.
Not dissing the FED2 in anyway, though. It is to me very beautiful and usable in its own right.
Just have to appreciate how different approaches were used to achieve the same thing (ie. take photos)

Not to mention the 20-30yr cam between the 2 cameras
