This just arrived yesterday....  Most exciting parcel I've received in a while.

It put a big dent in my future K-5 budget, but I'm sure it's worth it! Maybe my DA55-300 will appear on B&S next time I'm back in Singapore....

Beautiful lens.
It will surely be worth the money :)

Is Pentax still producing this lens?

No more. Production stopped a long time ago. Gengh, your copy is really pristine! <;

truly a great find

but frankly, someone looking at the 300mm focal length would be well served with the new DA*300mm as well... its slightly faster too at F4.

Yah it is! :) Only a few very minor scratches on the paint, and doesn't have the original front lens cap. It did require a +10 AF adjustment on my K20D though, but once the focus is right it's tack sharp wide open.

truly a great find

I've used the DA* on a couple of occasions, and frankly I'd be equally happy with F*, FA* or DA*. Decided to go with the F* since it's slightly smaller, lighter and cheaper, and most importantly I happened to come across it on ebay.

Its OOP.

A gem of a lens because it is very small and therefore very hand holdable and portable. Its also very sharp from wide open, and in fact its almost as sharp wide open as stopped down.

What a beauty.
Was tempted to get one, but already has FA*300/4.5.:)

Buying from eBay - how do you ensure you are getting a good buy and not being conned? Sorry for someone being on the conservative side. Please advise an old guy who still prefers a handshake, change $$$ and walk away. Your experience will be helpful.

Looks like this guy is an ornament collector. He buys it; put it on the altar dry-box, and pray all night long that it will give him beautiful pictures. Then when he couldn't get them, he decided to sell it on ebay.... what a story... haha

Leong...you just have to pay and pray. :bsmilie:

I thought this was a very rare lens...now I see that Gengh have one, VanGogh53 have another. Wonder how many resides in Singapore?

Actually, I'm also someone who very much prefers to deal face to face, if I were in Singapore I'd rather pay a little bit more to buy on CS B&S than try my luck on ebay. But for something rare and OOP like the F*300, just have to take a risk whenever one pops up.

I guess you have to scrutinise the pictures the buyer puts up, and check his ratings and reviews by other people, and look at the other stuff he sells to see if you can trust his judgement on photographic equipment (eg. if he sells various photography stuff both old and new, and has been doing it for a while, should be ok. If he only has a few old lenses and lots of other non-photography stuff, I find it more dubious). And of course have to be willing to go through the trouble of returning the goods if you are not satisfied. Check the returns policy carefully and send the seller messages to ask questions if you need to.

At least this is my point of view.... just need to decide now much risk and potential trouble you're willing to go through for that item.

Scorpioh sells his lenses? I thought he only buys! :bsmilie:

Sorry but I think you don't know enough to know why this one is special...

Erm, I admit I had a moment of guilty conscience when I read VanGogh's post. I nearly thought he was referring to me. But... Gengh, you have to dig it?! :bsmilie:
