Wow! You guys are amazing! Jonathan, those are some really nice collection. Oceanpriest got 3 fast f1.2 lenses? That's really something.

Maybe we should do a f1.2 lens competition sometime, let's say we go out in one of those good nights, and shoot everything wide open only, on both digital and film, so we can see the difference if any at all? That'd be really fun

yeah.... hahhaa..
my russian m42s dont line up properly... lol

In the early 90s, I did had a chance to own the Noct Nikkor 50mm F1.2 for a few months. And definitely burned a big hole in the pocket as a poor investment. The results were disappointing, mainly because I could not MF properly, and the negatives were not developed properly. Even in bright day light, the pictures did not seem to be as good as the 50mm F2 Nikkor. So I gave it up.

I started acquiring the Cosina/Tomioka 55mm 1.2 some 15 years later. This piece of glass is definitely better than the Noct in terms of price and the results I obtained.

Deepavali is coming? It will be great to put the F1.2 to the test in Little India. No tri pot. Shoot at ASA 800 either film or dSLR. It will be fun.

How about a F1.4 or F1.2 meet out in Hwa Par Villa? ;)

Come to think about it, I had not been there for over 15 years or more.

Cool! You got that lens too!

I got K 50/1.4 ;)

However some problem to me is I need to change lens if I don't want too much out of focus. hahaha. Quite troublesome. :S

It's difficult to find K 50/1.4, M 50/1.4 are more common. I am also looking for one :)

Any preference over the m version ?
Only for the 52mm filter thread compared to the 49 of most other pentax lenses at that time ...

I have K 55/1.8 and K 50/1.2, something is missing between :bsmilie:

Actually I feel that K's build quality is better than M.

:D since the subject is on K series lenses, i would like to share one of mine too.

Pentax SMC K 85mm "Soft" F2.2 - 5.6

Not a type of lens that is commonly used anymore, since the soft focus effects can be achieved through PP these days, but a novelty item that I wanted for my collection.

In terms of design, its one of the most unusual lens I've come across in the short time that I've spent researching Pentax lenses. Unlike other lenses, the aperture ring is in front of the focusing ring.

The markings on the aperture ring marks out the F numbers on one side, and the degree of "softness" on the other side. Basically, the lens is softest from F2.2 and gradually sharpens like a "normal" lens at F4, F5.6.

I've done some random tests with it. The sharpness is nothing to scream about and definitely nothing compared to some of the "legendary" 85mm out there, but its really fascinating at the opposite extreme ;) giving images a dreamy, surreal feel. I don't have any good sample pix yet... Will post some samples in the tech discussion section when I find the time to take this beauty out for a shoot.

no lah... lens cap quite old ;p the silver "asahi pentax" wordings are almost gone already.

i suppose unlike M 50mm lenses, this one is relatively less common, so there's no "market price" for it... harder to determine what's a fair price for it, esp one in good condition.

i think some recent auctions for this one went for abt USD$300? i paid less than that. ;)

You can use permanent silver marker pen to give the "asahi pentax" wordings a new lease of life.

true... but its ok lah... slight "rugged" look gives the lens character.

i don't use the original lens-caps anyway. i use cheap center-pinch type caps when i take my lenses out. that way, lost also nevermind :bsmilie:

USD$276? :bsmilie: I sniped that one also, too bad my reservation price is far below that, so my auction sniper didn't submit the bid :(

haha... i'll gladly pay USD$276 for an SMC K F1.2, thats for sure... but i don't think i'm that lucky :bsmilie:

i always refrain from taking part in auctions where the bidders have obviously gotten carried away ;)

Yah.. Recent auctions always so high... No choice, less common items. Unless you have the luck or no one notice it.

This just arrived yesterday....  Most exciting parcel I've received in a while.

It put a big dent in my future K-5 budget, but I'm sure it's worth it! Maybe my DA55-300 will appear on B&S next time I'm back in Singapore....
