Looks to be in too good a condition for it to be an original black paint M3. Would be nice to see the rest of the serial number though to know for sure. The 9xxxxx black paint M3s were manufactured in 2 small batches in 1959 and 1960 so unless it withstood the test of time or was a collector piece from the beginning...

hmm, i tend to concur with terence on this one. Your revelation of the number being 9595xx indicates that its either the last of the first batch (ending 959500) or its a repainted camera. Personally, i think it looks a bit too clean for a vintage one and would be more inclined to think that its a paint job. Nonetheless, its still very nicely done and a sweet camera.

A Leica is a brand famous for it's Rangefinder cameras. It also makes telescopes, microscopes, SLRs, digital cameras and the lenses for them.

A Rangefinder is a different animal from a PnS and a SLR. You can change the lenses on the majority of them and instead of looking through the lens, you look through a viewfinder which is coupled to a rangefinder which you use to focus. It's a different experience from using a SLR.
