I actually got it for our Canon Guru, Benny a while ago. It's with him now.
Yes it's a prototype, the focal length is not even inscribed on the ring in the front.

Wow. That was so long ago.... I was on a trip or something like that. Good that you were available to help me with this.

I've stopped buying gear for a while now due to certain financial constraints. Not a case of insufficient funding, but stupid paypal and credit card restrictions. Jon knows all about this.... Arrgghh!!!!!!

Cheers,

haha is there anything Canon that the MAN doesn't already have?

Actually.... My stash is so microscopically small. I only stayed within the Canon LTM range. I don't play with the J-mounts or the earlier Hansa models. I also don't do the mirror box set up with the 400, 600, 800 or 10000mm lenses.

You'll be surprised if you research further into history on how extensive the system actually was.

Cheers,

sorry i just couldn't help but rephrase this...

"haha is there anything Canon that the MAN doesn't already have multiple copies?"

When you play vintage lenses, you need a larger sample size to be able to make a substantiated comment about the images it produce. The variance in the quality of the output is just too big due to the degradation of the optics. I really don't quite trust comments from users who had tried one copy of the lens. Since Canon is so affordable, I prefer to test it out myself.

Nothing substantially better than the Canon 35mm f/1.5 LTM. That is a better lens in my opinion.

Yes. I was moderating on quite a few aquarium forums at one point in time. I usually use my name and the same avatar.

I can make that happen tomorrow. The Canon 35mm f/1.5 LTM is a fairly easy lens to find. Not rare at all.

Generally speaking, the rarer canon lenses are:

1. Canon 85mm f/1.9 LTM black barrel
2. Canon 28mm f/3.5 black barrel
3. Canon 50mm f2.2 LTM
4. Serenar 50mm f/2 LTM
5. Canon 19mm f/3.5 LTM

And I do come back to Singapore now and then. But since the weather turned better here in Tokyo recently, I'll going to jalan here instead.

Cheers,

One of the fav public holidays in Japan - Taiiku No Hi

Enjoy the fab weather there, Jon & Benny... its a mix of haze & heavy rain here lately! :(

Gommy, excited indeed! These prototype lenses are amazing. This Canon 35/1.4 should never have left the factory, but somehow did. I'd love to know the details of its journey from manufacture to benny's dry cabinet. A fascinating story for sure!

There is a 35mm f/1.4 prototype for Nikon RF as well. Its shown in Bob Rotoloni's Nikon RF book. But AFAIK no copies ever escaped the factory, and the lens pictured in the book is still owned by Nikon, and probably stored in the building just across the street from my office btw ;). Man I would love to own that lens

Three day weeekend coming up, and sun shine and highest temperature of 24-25C predicted. Just perfect for a photo stroll around Kamakura :)

Will do benny! I'm looking forward to see what other goodies I can find in your dry cabinet too :)

Some of you might have seen it. But here's why I take so long to unpack. This box was for some of the Canon RF bodies. You won't want to know how many other boxes I had to unpack.

And they are all back to the land they came from!!!!

Cheers,

Benny do u have a custom made dry cabinet for them? Or even a room?

The sight would have been magnificent!
