Should I get a Mac?

I notice Mac when I got an iPod...the only reason I bought a Mac is bcos OS X GUI is chio.

After using it for 2 years, I slowly found that OS X is good (see, how slow and lazy I am to exploring...) bcos

- i am lazy, i dun optimise my Windows which dunno why get slowers after years of using. My OS X after 2 years, the boot up and shutdown speed seems almost the same without any otpimisation or tweaking.

- after 2 years of using, I haven't got a hang yet. I didn't even know how to hard reboot a mac. :embrass:

- simple and nice interface - I like the Expose way of application switching very much. make job of editing lots of pic very easy and convenient.

Mac user here too. Jus switched a few months back to a C2D MBP and enjoying every moment i'm using it. Sometimes forced to use windows due to work but i will always use mac when i dun need windows. Its such a breeze to use.

think one of the reasons people used mac never go back to windows is bcos using Mac is by choice. We choose what we like, we enjoy. Using Windows is like no choice bcos office using, school using, customers using, girlfriends using etc.

I am not a mac fan but somehow using a mac gives me the joy loh. I dun think much. I know UNIX is powerful but i never bother to explore it yet.

tchoonyong's comment on monitor calibration somehow seems true. I used my Spyder2Express on both my iMac and iBook, and they both seem to came out with colors v close to pre-calibration. Whereas the two Samsung monitors in my office that I tried, both came out with MUCH better colors.

Meaning for those people who dont calibrate their monitors, some PC monitors can give very inaccurate and ugly colors.

you are lucky...my Windows gets slower after weeks of using, not years like you :bsmilie:

OS X on the other hand, seems to boot up faster with each new release. i noticed a visible difference when upgrading from Panther (10.3) to Tiger (10.4).

The little extra that I paid is well worth it because
1) I've had no viruses in the past year (I just started using macs a year ago)
2) My photo management process is now so much faster
3) I can edit videos too
4) Easy and no-nonsense.

Another good point about owning Mac is there is a decent used market for mac users. Check out www.macusersg.org. Also the forum in this site is excellent for mac users who have problems. You could start off with a used mac if you are trying it out as some people do.

1) I am not too sure about restoration on TIGER OSX but the new Leopard has a TIME MACHINE which can restore not only files but how your computer screen looks like at that point of time.

2) I think you can try Mercury MSN for video conferencing.

3) You don't need a bottom bar thingy to change your windows. You change windows in MAC either by using Apple + TAB. You can also go to System Preferences and choose Dashboard and Expose or Alex has mentioned use F11 keys.

Hope this will solve your 'problems'.

1. i dont empty my trash. restore as in restore from the trash to the original folder. something i forget where it came from.
2. i did install the msn on jabber on ichat thing but its still more troublesome

Well, first off, you might want to ask yourself if you need to make the change and why you want to make the change. The way i see it, you are asking us for any further justification beyond the form factor to switch over to a Mac.

There are various reasons for get a Mac, from stability, to form factor to even the kind of software that are available for presentation. Of course there are those who see it as a symbol of anti-establishment, or heck, coolness. There are those who enjoy using it for the way the OS performs and the snazzy interface that is OS X.

So at the end of the day, it really depends on your needs & wants.

By graphics, do you mean you need a dedicated graphics card? As in for gaming?
