Urbangear, great shots... nice pic u have here...

Thanks nordleadx! :)

Her eyes were closed?
Eye is most important for the success of a portrait shot..

She was looking down and her eyelashes were quite long, so her eyes cannot be seen. Point noted. Thanks! :)

I really like the colour, especially the skin tone.

Sometimes I wonder, why on earth THAT digital camera that cost so much have so many issues with white balance and yet this made in China $300+ TLR with a Reala can produce such amazing natural skin tone.

Thanks! :)

Heard about Fujicolor Reala from my wedding photographer and fellow CSer. Seen his work using this film and was really impressed by the result. Decided to try it out myself and I'm quite satisfied with the film.

Guess you pay more for Digital cameras for the convenience where you can view your pictures almost instantaneously. But I also like the element of surprise when you use a film camera. You'll never know the results until you have developed the film. ;)

Just bought a new film holder for my V700 scanner, was trying it out and went to scan one of my old slides shot with my old YashicaMat (should not have sold it away, really regret it!).

Here's a shot of Halong Bay, Vietnam. Cropped from the original square format.

I agree, it is regrettable, but you can buy one again if you really want :) ...

I bought a 3rd party holder, from http://www.betterscanning.com/. I bought the mounting station with ANR (anti newton ring) glass for dry or wet mounting as I ocassionally scan odd sized negatives.

The biggest problem with it is the hassle to do the wet or dry mounting, other than that the variable height does make a difference, so does the fact that you can get the film a lot flatter than using the epson's original film holder.

ANR glass is also very useful, I used to just use regular glass and the NRs are a real killer.

Here's a close up of a scan of the locks at 3200dpi.

On the left is the film holder I bought, right is the epson one.

Difference is quite minor but you can see the grain structure on the left is not as muddled as the right. If you had set the spacing on your epson holder wrongly it would be even worse than this.

However, that said, I believe when printing the differences might be quite minor if not negligible.

But one of the main reasons I bought the holder was to scan odd sized negs together with their borders (where the name of the film and so on can also be scanned in), not to squeeze pixels out of a scan.

Cool stuff. I know about this product.. Thanks

I've just received my BetterScanning holders for MF last week. No time to break it out of the box and use it yet. Bought replacement MF holders with NR glass, and a 8x10" NR glass for contact scans right on the flatbed.

The problem I had with the Epson V700 holders is the same what your comparison showed. Can barely see the grains. Then again, I compared a 35mm Tri-X scan between V700 and a KM5400 II dedicated film scanner, and although you can see each individual grains at the same resolution with the 5400, there doesn't seem to be any more detail. i.e. the V700 seems to be capturing the same amount of detail off the same film. So I believe you when you mentioned when printed, there is unlikely to be much difference.

Is that the church in Ritz Carlton?

Yup, Bali. Thats the wedding chapel at Conrad.

Lovely colors, Halcyon. Try MF again :-)

Some shots with Kodak Portra 160NC, metered at ISO 150. Hasselblad, 180mm. I really like this film, too bad Kodak doesn't make it anymore ... now got to find more while unexpired.
