LOL. Ok this was the shot i was composing :)

Still quite enamoured with Abu Simbel...

The gate is guarded by this old gent, who surprisingly did not ask me for baksheesh! This is the best way to photograph the interior of the temple - legally! :bsmilie:

The Temple of Hathor is sited about 100m from Abu Simbel. Hathor is the daughter of the Sun God and also the goddess of love and pleasure. She is depicted as a cow or woman with a crown of thorns and a sun disc.

Smaller in scale to Abu Simbel, it is fronted by 6 sculptures of Ramses II and his wife, Nefertari. Unusually, Nefertari is the same height as Ramses II and is accorded the same prominence in the interior carvings.

As related earlier, we stopped midway back to Aswan along the insurgent-infested highway for a sunset shoot. These insurgents may be like the Army of Anubis in the Mummy Returns movie, which rises anytime from beneath the sands...

I made a note to not just shoot the sun but also what lies behind.

I woke up early the next morning intending to take a sunrise shot, with the sun lighting up the Tombs of the Nobles across the river. But the sun was up too early and this was taken before 0530am.

But while we have some comments about our lodgings in Aswan, let us not forget that there are others on the other side of the divide.

Day 4: Aswan- Felucca Ride on the Nile

OK! Early morning, we got to the river Nile for our felucca ride.
What is a felucca? Well, before this ride, I didn't even know.
But now both SereneXMM and I know. What more we know - it's lovely!

Here is a record shot of the banks of the River Nile along Aswan, as we bobbed (did we bob?) gently on the water.
It was silent and peaceful as the felucca was powered by wind on its sails.
And we were all busy shooting away: at the birds (herons, was that right, Phraeb?), the scenery, the feluccas in the distance, the children on board singing to us, on men walking up the sandy slope at the far bank... etc etc...

Then two boys on a floating board came alongside our felucca and started singing.

Thank you so much for this information, Acpical!
I know we can always count on you. So Nefertari is Ramses II's wife, not Nefertiti (or something to that effect).

Thank you for this information!
Now I know why the guide and driver was so scared stiff when we wandered off onto the sand to shoot the sunset.
It was a potential danger in this ancient land, oblivious to us the ignorant.

Such a spontaneous shot!
It's really really nice. And the two baksheehee have positioned themselves appropriately at the entrance of the temple!

Felucca Ride

With an unconcealable anticipation of the adventure lying ahead, the whole troupe stepped out of the hotel lobby early this morning.
Here was vngks (in classic Japanese fashion) and nihao11 giving my lens a run for its money!

The excitement rubbed off on everyone.
Here ageless simply could not hold off getting a shot of the River Nile and its vessels even up on the bank.

What is SereneXMM and Lai Peng looking at?
It's nothing but water mah.... Actually I was wrong. It was those two cute little boys on the board singing and rowing themselves to us, for a spoil of the baksheesh...

The Nile? Yes, the Nile!

I am sure all of us in the team have read about the famous River Nile.
Some of us have even had previous opportunities to see the Nile.
Being right here, finally, floating on the waters of the Nile is truly an extra-ordinary experience in its very own.
Imagine, here is the stretch of river that was the bed of the Egyptian civilisation, and along which so many historical events took place.

Being here on the felucca drifting solely on wind power, presented us with a chance to be finally intimate with this romantic river.
And this team of photographer chose to be intimate with her in the photographic way.

Here are some actions of intimacy.

Wow. What an angle!

Wow. Another 'what an angle'!
